The smoke from the fires was really bad yesterday. Not only could you not see the mountains you could smell burnt wood. I hope they can get the fires stopped and under control, the air quality here right now is not good.:(.

Same here, mtpond. We've been having to keep our windows closed for the past week or so. (no a/c here either)
The valley is really clouded from the haze and sometimes it's so bad our driveway looks like it's in a grey/blue fog.

Very smoky here today, but that is OK cause we can have "smokey Chilly" downtown today!! First time in a couple years that me and the hubby will be going downtown to sample the chilli today! The tickets are 5 dollars but you can sample at least 50 different kinds of chilli! Almost all the downtown vendors are busy cooking up a storm for this afternoon. It will be so nice to walk with my dear hubby and have fun again!
Smokey haze last night over the sun set....

No smoke over us but the rain has arrived w/ it's wonderful presence. Actually we could use some rain. Grass was turning brown and things needed refreshing. Not coming down right now so might get in a dry walk. Hope the fires get under control for all you people living near them.
Colleen I was never fond of the plastic pink flamingo's as growing up my mother painted her house pink and had those things planted in our yard. I was so not into them then and as a teen was embarrassed by it all. They look just fine in your gardens tho but hope you don't paint your house pink or I might start having nightmares and I love the real ones of those birds out in the wild :)

JW my hubby will not let me paint the house, let alone pink! He says he hates when they paint over stucco and that the paint falls off in a few years, otherwise I might have painted the house, and pink sounds lovely! ha ha ha

I just love my flamigos, they light up and are solar and much nicer and bigger than the other ones I had last year that took batteries. Only the top is plastic, the legs are heavy metal. I can't help it, I am a garden junkie and trying to create my own tropical wonderland, besides they belong with the Red Banana's I have out front!

Chilli cookoff was fun and filling, but weather was little too hot and windy for my liking. I think the temperture was close to 90 degrees today. Hubby said it was going to storm but it was a false alarm. Road down at the river park turning to dust and little dust devils were out this morning.

I am imagining you as a young girl JW, your mothers pink house and her pretty pink flamigos!! The year is 1965 in my head and your mom is outside moving her pink flamigos around. I imagine she must have had those colored hanging lanterns from the 1960's and she is dressed in a typical 1960's style flowing summer gown serving drinks to your dad and company.... wish I could see it for real.... am I close??

Ha Ha Ha you are close. They used to have party's every weekend out in the garden in the Summer and I remember a white dress w/ big giant blue circles on it w/ a full skirt to it. She was a gardening queen and she loved to dance. They were drinkers alright and the liquor used to flow freely. She loved all her flowers and she wanted a sweet little girl she could dress in pretty dresses and take to tea party's and beauty contests. Boy did I fool her! I was just the opposite. Loved to climb trees, play in the dirt, go fishing w/my dad, fight w/ the boys, drag all the critters home that she was afraid of. Boy was that fun!

I love those old stories, I remember I used to hang out with my Uncle and Aunt up north, they had a big garden and my mom and her sister used to compare gardens ... they had lots of potatoes and cabbage and onions growing nice in rows and my Auntie and Mom had lots of flowers too. Now many years later, my mom's favorite sister and husband now passed away, somehow I miss their gardens even more and wish I could take a peek back and see us all together....

Windy all of a sudden, and there was lighting off to the north west corner. There is storm off in the distance, but it will probably miss us tonight. It seems that when you really need a good rain to hold the dust down on the prairies in hot July, they are far and few between....

Gray skies but supposed to clear and then rain this afternoon. Have to go work at a rental pruning a huge Magnolia tree that is dropping it's humongous branches. The Wisteria has gone flipping wild also

90 degrees and very humid. Hottest day of the year for us. Not used to this since its been cool most of the year. Our summer has so far mainly consisted of 70s, which has been really odd, but nice.
