My Mandevilla vine, which is tropical, is still blooming, and as ICSD said above, we had 24 this morning. I guess since it's up against the house on the east side, and under the soffit, it must not get affected by the frost as badly, and the house must keep it warmer than the air temps. I'm not bringing it in this year, so it will die, I'm sure. Funny though how you baby it and it struggles, and when you leave it to die, it lives! Go figure!!!

Well at least you got plants that are still alive in your pond, everything here very dead (except in my greenhouse) and covered in snow! :(

The umbrella palm in the koi bog is still thriving, although I'm not sure how, since I thought it was tropical as well. Maybe a lot of these can go to the extremes, just not total frozen roots. Yes, the water clover and penny wart are all doing very well, too. Others have been cut down or pulled out, as they were dead. Mums in pots are blooming very well yet, but I know they are very hardy, can get through several hard frosts. I should plant them this weekend, but not sure where I would want them, as they get very large, about 3' across, when mature! Thinking mum, Karly Rose grass, mum, Karly Rose grass, etc. across back edge of lawn. :)

That sounds pretty ce. I have mums to plant as well, along with others that need to go in the ground. Now I just need to find time to do it, so much to do, and I fear I'm running out if time to do it! :(
I guess the bog will have to wait till spring to be completed. It's 31 here this morning, just about everything froze overnight, so ill be cutting them back today. One problem is I have plants for beds that are not created yet, should I just plant them where ever till spring then dig them up? Not sure what to do with them. And what about the trees? I really don't want to dig holes for them and then dig them up again, Any ideas?

Fishy, when I moved here 3 years ago, it was in September. I had a ton of plants I had bought and planted at the rental place, plus I bought some trees really cheap before I closed, hoping the deal would not fall through! I trees got planted where I wanted them to go. The plants couldn't, as the house needed to be backfilled before I planted anything around it. So, I had the former garden area, just put all the plants in the ground there. Then, the following spring, I dug them up one by one, as I knew where I wanted them, and transplanted. The trees will last longer than the plants, so if you have a garden, put the plants there, mark them well (remember, those tabs may get brittle and break up and blow away during winter/spring months) and you will have all winter to decide where to put them. If you don't have a garden, just pick a spot in your yard to dig up, maybe a place you will dig sometime and plant things. It doesn't matter if it's sunny/shady, etc. as they will be dormant and won't mind. :) If you know where the trees are going to go, and those areas will not be changed, then go ahead and plant them when you have the time. A few frosts won't damage the roots.

This morning the temperature currently is now just slightly below freezing, sun won't raise until 7:35 am, and CE your sunrise today is for 6:37am and sets three minutes later than us today at 4:40pm. You get a full hour more of sunshine than I do.... must be nice for you, so make sure to enjoy the extra sun while I sit in the dark and drink more Cod Liver Oil!!! Ha ha ha. :)

well we had a light frost but plants around pond are ok and guessing water kept them safe .Supposed to be in the mid to high60's the rest of the week .I am trying to get caught up but think it is impossible to do .Son picked up curtains at the cleaner and lady was so nice about it and did not even charge me the full amount for them .Not sure when i will get them put back up but all the new blinds are up and windows are all clean inside and out .

Thanks ce good idea, think ill do that. Only problem is with the weeping maple, i need to bring dirt in where I need to put it. Can I bury the pot and all in the ground along side the plants? As I don't think I'm going to have time before winter to build a landscape :( and bring in dirt.

That would work, it will keep the pot from freezing up, the tree will be dormant, the roots grow a little during winter.
When I just did all the moving of plants, I found a spot in the yard, stuck most of them there, in the spring I will move them again, or just leave them there, depends on my mood lol.

45 and beautiful here, sun out feels nice and toasty outside.
