Well that explains why I can’t get close to my bird bath...there are always swarms of bees on it...I add water with the hose but from a distance. 98 degrees here and still rising. Brutal!

Well I moved here a year ago from the Adirondacks and I am having a VERY hard time adjusting to this heat. I miss my cool nights. This humidity is brutal! I can‘t imagine losing my ac at a time like this.

Hi everyone, I want to say thanks. Last September the back of our property was grass. I've spent a lot of time browsing the forums here and posted quite a few questions. Every morning before work my wife and I eat breakfast out next to our pond. Every night we sit out and enjoy it before turning in. Heck I've thrown a bathing suit on just so I could still sit out there in the rain. This forum helped turn my backyard in to a refuge. Thank you.

Addy, your lotus is absolutely breathtaking! Quick question though. Its kinda too late because I already did it but here is a question for you. Our first ever bud bloomed (pics above that I had posted) and after 3-4 days its petals fell off (normal). Well, silly me I thought: hey, better not let it spend energy in making seeds which I'm not going to use so I neatly clipped the seed pod triangle thing right off! I've been on a deadheading binge this year with roses, cannas, perennial salvia, etc and they have all rewarded me with lots of summer blooms which usually I never see.
However, after I did some research, most sites said not to cut the seed pod but to let it mature??!! Another said that it could kill the lotus and never to prune back the leaves even if they're yellow and nasty because they are hollow, etc etc. What do you do?

I let mine mature. The seed pods are kind of cool looking! Cutting them off exposes the hollow stem which is not good. Let the stems dry completely .

Now that I have cut the seed pod off (just below it so a good 1 ft above water level) what should I do? Deadheading doesn't help get more blooms?

I don't think it helps with lotus, but not sure. Take the stem you cut and bend it over. I let mine from seed pods. Some of the seeds are nice and big some tiny. I have mailed seeds to various people, me not trying to start any more plants.
