Quickly snapped this photo last night when everything turned insanely orange. I've never seen everything turn this orange before. The entire sky was orange. It was wild!

Hello everybody! Just wanted to show you my outdoor tropical fish pond in Canada. Its been running for three years now. all winter too. I cover with cold frame and heat with two fish tank heaters. Been out in -38 degree weather and survived! I cover well when its that cold.
Here is is today!

This Cardinal Flower grew all on its own in the rocks along my pond. I guess at some point, a seed got into the pond and eventually wedged itself in the rocks. Conditions must've been good enough for it to grow. I noticed it in spring and decided to leave it.

@JBtheExplorer - it's gorgeous! What a wonderful weather we've had this summer. Everything still looks so lush and green.

I was in the pond yesterday dealing with SO MANY LILY PADS and just remembering a few short months ago when I was so excited about that first pad creeping to the surface! I do love messing with them though... I spend lots of time making sure they're all untangled and every last pad is laying just right on the water. It's so peaceful and really gets my head clear. I know - I'm nutty! haha!

Look at all the cardinal plant hummingbird haven

Indeed. Between Cardinal Flower, Royal Catchfly, and the Mexican Sunflowers, they're here all the time. I'm going to be working on seeding a lot more cardinal flower this winter. I've got four more garden projects in the works and I think I may try to add cardinal flower to all of them.

...actually, five garden projects. This is my grandma's garden. She doesn't take care of it any more and it's gotten weedy, so I'm going to turn this strip into a native garden. As you can see, the black-eyed susans really took over since she became unable to maintain her garden. They'll be staying, but I plan on removing most weeds and seeding it all this winter. Hopefully I can get a bunch of Cardinal flower to grow here, I know she'd love it.

That reminds me - @JBtheExplorer do you find your cardinal flowers migrate around your yard? I have some that started at the edge of the pond that have now moved about 6 feet east. They aren't dying off - just relocating!
