I got a new outdoor rated timer at Christmas time from Menards. It has a heavy duty cord which plugs into the outside outlet, and the timer is at the other end, with it's own cover. Not sure if it would have been rated for pumps, but that is the type I would want to have outside. The type that are kind of like a small box would not fit into my 4-way covered boxes, as they would take up too much space, cover possibly the other 3 outlets. Lots of different possibilities, go to a store that has plenty to choose from, and then ask questions (if the workers know what they are supposed to know, that is). :)

Yesseree bob CE I'm gonna do some checking around maybe on the net too, compare and price. I wouldn't plug a square one into my new outlets either as it would hog space. But I do have an outdoor post outlet thingy that is vertical and plugs into the new outlet where I might be able to plug one of those square ones into the bottom outlet where it wouldn't be in the way of the other plugs.

See there now I was able to like again, lol!

I think I like the ones w/ the stake and all the 6 outlets on it. Next time by H-depot will check it out.

CE I'll just have to like when I can and then like no more and then like when I can again! I don't get why we can't like as many times as we like!

Mine has a plastic cover and is rated for out door use .I looked online and they have several different kinds .Some are rated also for amount of amps you can use .The one I have my son got up in NJ .He is now back up there living and there are more places to find them there than here .This one comes with a heavy duty power cord and has a box on the end with a stake that goes in the ground and the timer can run 2 different things .He called and ask me beacause they had ones that also ran 4 items and ones that ran 4 things but you could set each one to turn off and on at different times .They cost from 25 dollars and up with the power cord but direct plug in was cheaper .

Sissy,
I found some of these listed on the link Addy posted, and found one that says for pumps but was only an 8Amp load, but then I found one that cost more and was rated for a 15 Amp load which is the same as the outlet that it is plugged into now. And the pump is rated to use under 300 watts which is about the same as my big screen tv.

the only thing you have to make sure that it is rated for that use if not it can overheat and start a fire or even worse burn up your your pumps motor .They are just like the extension cords and are rated the same .They have to say heavy duty or say how much load they can take .

I will have to see if they have the one I found in the store or not. Here is one I found: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...langId=-1&keyword=outdoor timer&storeId=10051 but this is the one I like that lists being able to be used to control pumps:

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-25e...langId=-1&keyword=outdoor timer&storeId=10051

It is more expensive, but not as much as the big ones they have. The ones I was orginally looking at was this one:

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...langId=-1&keyword=in wall timer&storeId=10051

Wasn't sure if it would be able to work outdoors if I placed it in an outdoor recepticle with an in use cover just like I did the rest of my outlets which were designed to be indoor and are 15 Amps and haven't had a problem with. Like these here: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...ord=outlet&storeId=10051&superSkuId=202887009 but I got mine at Menards.
I might just have to get both when it gets closer to when I will have my electrician come out and ad some more outlets and then I can ask him which he thinks is a better option.

The outdoor timers I have are on a plug so it only takes one plug space. Not those square things.

http://www.homedepot...e&Ntpr=1&Ntpc=1

these are at home depot

Thanks for the great link Addy!

We had a good snow storm last week, the same system that unfortunatly created all those tornados south brought us snow. So I took pictures friday night when I got home from work, the next day, and then this past tuesday. I have a lot to post so I will split this up into a few posts.

I got home friday around midnight or a little after and here is what the pond looked like when I got home.

DSC05270.JPG

The snow was really thick and heavy, I believe we got 5-6" total, or at least that is what it looked like. When it's like that it clings to everything and looks really cool. There was just the usual hole open in the ice.

DSC05272.JPG

The trees were all completely covered, to the point where some were bent over. So any of my evergreens that were taller than 2' I shook all the snow off so that they wouldn't get damaged.

DSC05276.JPG

The opening in the water was cool to see, there is an island of snow in the middle that I thought was awesome.

Here is what everything looked like in the morning. There were flurries coming down when I took these and you can see some in the photos.
I also as a result of the warmer weather have gotten some string algae around the pump, but am going to leave it for now so if the fish get hungry they can eat it. I checked the water temperature on tuesday as a lot of the snow was still melting and it was still 34-36 degrees so not expecting them to get too hungry yet.

After work on Saturday afternoon it was still snowing a little so I drove to a wildlife park/preserve that I like to go hiking in and took some pictures at the trail head.

Heres the road. The wet snow stuck to all the trees.

The rest of these are of the Baird's Creek that flows through the area.

And then on Tuesday I went after work to a local waterfall to see what everything looked like before the snow melted. The water had frozen at one point and now there was water flowing over the top of it. You could also climb on the ice to get behind the falls. Naturally I took a lot of pictures and am only posting probably a third of them. :) The waterfall is called Fonferek's Falls in Fonferek's Glenn Park.

Here is the falls as you see it from the observation area:

Here is a close up of the falls

DSC05403.JPGDSC05417.JPGDSC05421.JPG

The ice formed pillars on each side and a wall behind the falls

DSC05427.JPGDSC05428.JPGDSC05435.JPG

Here's the gap where the water fell into before running under all the ice/snow covering the pool at the bottom of the falls.

DSC05441.JPG

Here you can see one of the pillars better and then me by the falls

DSC05442.JPGDSC05445.JPG

It was probably about 45-50 degrees that day, but also really windy.

This is one of my favorite places to go hiking due to the topography in the area that is only a few acres big but really cool. I think I have posted pictures of this area before and I know my younger brother has gone ice climbing here on the falls in the past.

These are all of the area behind the falls.

There were gaps in the ice wall behind the falls that looked liked windows.

DSC05462.JPGDSC05464.JPGDSC05471.JPGDSC05475.JPGDSC05476.JPGDSC05486.JPG

There is a big gap on the right side of the wall of the small gorge that the falls falls into. Its big enough to sit in and there were icicles that formed coming down from the roof.

And lastly the snow has melted with the warmer weather we have had the last few days so here is what the pond looks like now.

DSC05516.JPGDSC05517.JPGDSC05540.JPG

Like I said before there is some string algae around the pump and the water is still a little murky, kind of like the videos Addy posted of her pond (before and after she turned on the filter), but I still want to wait before I set my filter back up until I know that I don't have to worry about any kind of extended freezing temperatures. I really don't want to have the filter or any of the hoses get wrecked with a freeze/thaw so I will probably wait till early April to set them up. If the string algae gets worse I will just fish it out with a rake, but I don't plan on feeding the fish until I get the filter up and running and it might take until then for the water to warm up enough to feed them so I am not too worried.
