We do it in big groups, and we have tubes just for the coolers :) no umbrellas though, we bring sunscreen in the cooler and reapply once in a while.

On the fourth of July, the river was so low it took over 3 hours to float from one spot to another, and we could see where we were getting out when we got in, it was a bad year for tubing.

When we have the little one, we take the canoe and everyone else is in tubes, but shes at the age this year where she doesn't like to sit still anywhere so she didn't go this year, mom and her stayed at home while my son and I went with my family and a bunch of friends.

Sounds like great fun, JW!
Woohoo, we got a nice rain this afternoon, came all at once, is the only problem. Got 1.8" of much needed rain, ditches were full, but most of it will soak in soon, I hope. My yard is soggy right now, so it's soaking in. Ponds are full and overflowing, but no worries. Didn't go over the top of either of them.
Here's a funny picture!
Pictures on the wall had water all over the glass.JPG
The windows on the right are on a west facing wall. The window closest to the nightstand is a casement, so it swings out, faces NW. The rain came with such force, and yes, I forgot and left windows open this morning when I left for work, that there was not only rain puddling (yes, puddling!!!) on top of the nightstand, and the statue was covered with as much water as would stay on it, but the pictures on the wall above the head of the bed were covered with water!!!!
My bed was soaked as well. I had to rewash the sheets that just got put on fresh last night, and the comforter. The water soaked through the thin comforter/bedspread, sheets, thick pillow top mattress cover, and the thin rubber backed (thank goodness) mattress cover that came with my memory foam mattress! If not for that waterproof cover, my mattress would have been like a giant sponge, no telling how long it would have taken to dry it out.
It took 3 bath towels to soak up as much water from the carpet as possible, now running dehumidifier in there to help dry things out.
And, not only did the rain come from the west, but N window in utility room had water ON things, not just blown across the floor, 10' from the window and 3' up from the floor. The E sliding glass door had rain that came in, but mainly on the rug.
But, it was quite the show! I was at work when it blew through. Got nighttime dark, then windy, then still with light rain, then VERY windy and heavy rain, sheets and sheets of heavy rain, they said 1" in the first 5 minutes, and I believe it! Some say hail, were under tornado warning, but never spotted one. Exciting! Glad I was where I was safe and dry! That calm before the storm sure rang true this time. Eery feeling, as they had not called the tornado warning yet, and I said to my daughter, "Wow, was really windy, now really calm, like before a tornado" and I no more than got those words out and the warning came over the radio. LOL
Hope the rest of you in the path of this storm were as lucky as me, no damage to speak of besides wet. Oh, and temps dropped from 91 to 66 when the storm blew through, and tomorrow, high in upper 70's! Woohoo, I'm loving it!!!

Good grief CE that would have been a real shocker to come home to that mess! Sorry it happened and hope everything dries up good!

Guys we didn't use tubes, we just put on life jackets and jumped in the river w/ just our bodies and floated downstream. It was a blast cept in the spots that were all of a sudden quite shallow and you drag your butt bumping on the bottom. You had to put your legs out and brake and then get up and walk to the next deep part and then jump in and off you go again...........whoopee!!!
Kids were jumping off a bridge where walkers and bicycles ride. It is an old train bridge and way high up and looks like they would kill themselves if they hit wrong. Bet they aren't supposed to be doing that but nobody comes to stop them so on it goes. Felt so good to be out of the heat and in that river. Now back to the hot house but I'm still sitting in my wet bathing suit so that helps

That sounds like so much fun, JW, but I would be somewhat worried about snakes and snappers and catfish larger than humans! Guess you just float on by and wave to them as you go, huh?!
Around here, you go on rivers, you need to be in a raft or canoe or something, but they are maybe moving faster than what you floated on. Always fun to float along, though. We swam along the big raft we floated down a river in UT, the water was perfect temp, cool, but felt good cause the air was hot. You're also so lucky to have a hubby that enjoys doing things like that with you! You two must be two peas in a pod. Lucky you!!! :)

CE we are lucky here in Western Washington.............no snakes, except gardener snakes, and no turtles.............well there could be some western pond turtles somewhere but not very likely as they are rare and wouldn't hurt anyone anyways and no fish to bite you in the rivers unless a trout might kiss your toes as you swam by. No leaches or any other strange critters to bother you. Only thing we have to worry about is too swift of waters pushing you under some log jams or snags but not too likely in our river here when it is low water in the summer. When it's hot here everyone lives in the lakes and rivers w/ no danger except drowning if they don't know what they are doing. Us w/ life jackets are pretty safe just floating down the river w/ just our bodies and no float tubes. Lots do use the rafts and inner tubes but we don't or haven't yet anyways. Would be fun to do tho w/ food and drinks and friends

When I floated on the Colorado River in UT with my daughter couple of weeks ago, it was on a large raft. We jumped off and swam many times. We had life jackets on, required, but it made it way more fun to swim, no worries about floating. Water was wonderful! Bet your rivers are a blast this time of year, and your way is probably the best, no raft to have to haul around the log jams if you come across them. Never saw anyone do it with life jackets, although oftentimes canoes have a rope tied to a tube, that someone is sitting in and floating along. They sometimes get their but hit on rocks, though. Ouch!

It is pretty fun but yes you do have to watch out for the shallows and life jackets make it so easy. You just go w/ the flow!

Only 57F here right now at 9am. Supposed to rise to 82 which will be a nice warm day for some bike riding.
Think about floating in the river w/ the jackets you stay nice and cool w/ no sunburn except maybe on your face. Everything is pretty much under the water. Just watch when going under the bridges for the kids jumping! I heard that a couple got caught on the river after dark and ended up sleeping on a sandbar w/ their canoe a day ago. They were fine just miscalculated their adventure.

It's 75 right here now, sunny, light breeze, can you say PERFECT! Wow, it's wonderful. Lawn is mowed (actually have about half of my grass back so far) and now going to finish that sidewalk expansion I started 2 months ago. Got the dirt filled in on the sides, edge piece put in place holding the edge of the stones, now got to spread top soil and mix it into the top inch, then throw the seed down. I got the seed that comes with the mulch in with it, so hoping not to have to straw it, although I have straw in the hayloft of my barn. THEN, going to listen to a band tonight with friend (and dance WOOHOO!!!) and horseback riding tomorrow, as more of the same weather predicted.

CE glad you can get to your sidewalk expansion in the cooler temps. You'll have everything all ready by fall and then you can sit back and enjoy it all till the winter shoves itself in on ya.
You go girl and dance the night away! Have fun horse back riding too.
We tried to go bike riding today but I got a nail in my tire about 5 miles into it. Big crooked nail and tried to patch it but it wouldn't hold. Think maybe the nail went all the way through to the other side of the tube and put a hole in there too. Maybe we'll try again tomorrow, darn it!
