104 today, 105 expected tomorrow then cools off to 101 on Sunday. :) I transferred more hyacinths to the small pond for extra shade but still had to add cool water to keep the temp lower, poor fish.
I was doing really well with the hyacinths I bought, and then in the last week or two they are all dying. I tried putting them in a bucket with Miracle Grow, but they still are dying, pretty much dead now. Is it because my pond is too hot? I think I also read that water needs to be a certain PH or maybe it was the hardness I can't remember, or the hyacinths are not happy. Whatever it is that my water has, they do not like. This will be the last time I'm trying them, unless someone can tell me why they die, when everyone else talks about having to toss the extras that are produced.

Just before 4 this afternoon, neighbor boy said it was blowing hard and raining. Where I work, in Effingham, had to have gotten over an inch, rained hard off and on for well over an hour. I got .3" at home, but not complaining! Temps went from 105 at lunchtime to 77 when left work, probably dropped that 28 degrees within an hour or less with the storm coming through. I took advantage of the moist ground to pull weeks in my mulched areas. Then it finally started raining again, just a short shower, but everything is wet now again. Love it!
This was our first rain in about 3 weeks, but areas very close to where I work, just maybe 10 miles west of there, have not had ANY rain for 2 months now. I guess they kept missing the rains that we were getting my way, about 30 miles west of them. That seems to be the pattern this year, when it does rain, it's VERY spotty! Town just west and north of me was under severe storm warning from 3:40 -4 this afternoon, reporting high winds, heavy rain, and quarter sized hail! That's only 7 miles north of me and 3 miles west! Glad I missed out on the hail, but chairs were turned over, kiddie pool had blown across the yard ... but no damage.
Hope all those on the east coast, and other states will get their power back sooner rather than later, and that all are well! Praying for those who lost their lives. :-(

REPORTING LIVE currently a balmy humid 80 degrees, no wind, sun shining, was a very nice day to lay in the sun today. Forcast tomorrow for Thundershowers in the afternoon. :)

Sissy I miss you and Poppy asked if your puppy was OK too!

JW my hyacinths look like crap too, think the fish were eating the roots again. In the water right next to the hyacinths is my Hornwort. Hornwort grows under the water like a underwater bush, doing real good. Take a look....

We had a monsoon of a storm on Friday. I was picking up my son for the week right when it hit. Major street flooding and power lines down. 10 away where home is the streets were barely wet. I have family in Chicago that is going on 3 days with no power. They were lucky to get a generator tonight. I feel for all that don't have power or even a home.

Hornwort is sold in bunches, can be wintered in the pond in the sludge at bottom if pond, or a piece can be grown in a jar in the window. I was really tempted to remove that sludge ball in the early spring, but new if I did that I would not have any hornwort. I keep it with the small fish in the bottom pond. Fish will eat it but usually by summer it grows quicker that they can eat. Here are some early spring picts with the sludge at bottom that had hornwort pieces wintering.

Well so much for the sunshine. It poured down rain all night and this morning and is now finally clearing up. Sun peeking out behind the dark clouds. The weathermen are all swearing that tomorrow on the 4th it will be nice and dry and in the 70's. Hope they are right cuz we are all making up our food dishes for the neighborhood cook out and we'll be shooting off our illegal fireworks

They are legal here also but everyone buys the illegal ones from the Indian reservation that go way up in the air and make beautiful colors and shoot across the sky to realms unknown. You are only supposed to shoot the ones off legally from the neighborhood fireworks booths and the Indian ones are not supposed to be taken off the reservations but everyone does it anyways. The neighborhood booth ones are lame and it's so wet here right now nothing is going to catch fire
