It was cool in the afternoon. I didn't look at the temperature but I was out cleaning my prefilters and my son was just wearing a T-shirt. I had to wear a long sleeved cotton shirt and a fleece vest though!

After running the pump and filters for a few weeks, the water is crystal clear now. The pre-filters didn't pick up too much muck either. But the bottom of the pond is definitely very dirty now that we can see all the way to the bottom and as soon as the weather is dry we'll get the old Sears Wet-Dry out and vacuum the bottom of the pond.

Funny thing about that Wet-Dry Vac. I always said that if I got that wet-dry, I'd always be able to use it to vacuum the garage, but I've never used it for anything else but the pond.

I dunno what other people use wet-dry vacs for. I'm sure Sears didn't make it for ponders. I guess people use it for leaks, spills and such, though ours is a big one.

We did have a water heater leak in our garage but we have a smaller wet-vac and used that instead.

My wet dry is now at the renters to clean up the mess the city of baltimore caused. Too many houses built, not enough sewers. That wet dry is staying there. Luckily the bathtub filled up rather than running out onto the floor. Just a touch on the floor.
My late hubby loved the suckers, I moved here with 4 large ones, he over bought everything

Sun shine on my shoulder as I'm typing makes me happy

Rising to almost 60f today................yahoo mountain dew
My hubby uses it out in his shop for picking up sawdust, metal shavings, and kind of left over refuse. I have never used it that I can remember.

50 degrees F.! Warmest it's been in AGES! Checked the pond this morning, and now I know why the ice is so slow to leave. The neighbour to the south planted a cedar hedge many years ago, and then split with his wife and went 'bye-'bye. Since then the hedge has gone from 6' wide to 16' wide, taking up a nice chunk of MY yard. But even worse, the damn thing is now about 30' high, and with the sun rather low in the south, no sunlight actually reaches my pond! Anyone know a good way to kill off cedar trees? Just don't tell my neighbours! :cautious:

Cedar hedges contribute to increased mosquito populations.

For the desired effect, take your shovel handle, when the ground is nice and moist, shove that shovel handle down as far as you can get it on each side of the individual cedar trunks. Pour Round-Up into the holes, cover the holes back up.

When the cedars croak, feign surprise and mourn their demise (hey, I'm a poet).

I am available for sensitive, clandestine jobs such as that described above,

A regular Longfellow, eh? BTW, cedars merely provide shelter from wind, the skeeters don't actually NEST in them. You are probably confusing them with crows! ;) Thanks for the tip. I know NOTHING about it!

We don't live that far apart, Haro, so don't try telling me that your skitters are the size of crows.

If I've told you once, I've told you a million times.....don't exaggerate!

Suppose to have sun with a few clouds and a high of 52 today. The Bottom of pond almost reached 44 yesterday. Night time temps have been below 30 and the fish are still chilling out. Can't wait to hear the sound of the waterfall and to have clearer water :). Patiently waiting  Yeah right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surprisingly warm at 41F tonight. I'm about to log off, but I'm very hungry. I just found an individual pack of cookies in the back of kitchen pantry with no expiration date on it.

Knowing my wife (hoarder) I have no way of knowing how old these are. Could be from last year. The oldest they can be is 2004, which is when we bought the house, unless she brought them over from the old house, which we bought in 1993.

I going to open them now. If you don't hear back from me tomorrow, they're probably from 1993, unless her Grandma brought them here from the old country when she immigrated here (1920).

OK, I'm going to eat them now.
