You had better slow down Sissy, your fishies are all worried about you and we are too! :)
Yes, it is a good idea to insulate the hose just in case the power goes out, and I really should insulate mine too, maybe this summer I will do that. ...

Happy First Day of Spring!!!! Going to be beautiful here, 60 degrees and sunny! Praying the insurance adjuster is in a great mood this morning when he comes to give me an estimate on my roof damage from a month ago.
Sissy, I too have the pipe insulation on my pipe that goes out of the pond and in the ground (but that ground is above ground level, on the side of the waterfall) but it didn't help this winter when we had the arctic blast and power went off. Colleen, I use the flexible sump pump tubing, never had any freeze and crack issues. Not taking any chances of draining the ponds, and have it all moved like Sissy says to inside the pond liner. Still need to move the stream line to IN the stream, then I will have no worries ever of a leak, only if something chews a hole in the liner somewhere.
And, yes, if I can keep my water running, I was hoping that the insulation would have kept it from freezing, Colleen, but that was not meant to be this winter. Maybe next winter I will have it down to a science like you. :)

I have mine insulated inside the pond also .But yep that polar vortex did cause a lot of problems .It seems this winter caused a lot of problems for every one .I am hoping since this is a brand new liner and was not sitting out exposed to weather that it will last a long time .But I did end up with some nice big pieces and gave one piece to the guy who picked up fish for his stream and waterfall .He was going home to put a liner around his tank like mine so he did not have to worry about it leaking .

I used the hard PVC pipe because it has a thicker side wall and you can make it bend just like the flexible pond tubing. I did have some of the flexible pond tubing split on me between the ribs. I wanted to get max water flow and the cost of the flex tube vs PVC was a no brainer for me.

This is coming out of my skimmer box

This is running up hill and around a big rock. That pipe runs under my above ground bog.

It depends on what kind of flex tubing you buy as that stuff made by tetra does not hold up .But for my temps and price sump pump hose was good for me .I know some use abs and bend it also .The kind pond digger and pond hunter use are out of my league also .But it has come down some what .You can find it on ebay .

Sissy said: "I slipped once and fell and that was enough to convince me it was not worth it ".

Keep a laptop beside you when you work on the pond, Sissy. That way, if you fall in, you can PM me, and I can race right down there and pull you out! :D It shouldn't take me more than a day, IF they let me across the border.

Well it looks like you have easy access Ryan, that is very good and your stream looks nice and clean. I needed to see some green pictures, tired of the snow.
Speaking of snow, it has been snowing and raining all morning, and it is going to get really cold again tomorrow, actually the whole weekend weather forecast sucks and looks to be cold! It looks like I will need to get that heater back out for tomorrow night.

Sick of snow!!

40 degrees today, about 70% of grass is showing again, and I even saw two Robins hunting for worms for the first time this year! I went in the woods near my house and theres even a stream running again.

Sadly low 30s and snow next week. :dead:
