No because she normally keeps her pond pumps running all winter. I was planning on pulling my pumps when I first started my pond, but she is the one that got me started on just letting them run all winter.

That's a great video, Colleen. I said, out loud to no one buy myself, "How did you get that ball to stay under the water?" LOL I heard you say centrificle (sp) force, but it still amazed me. I would have thought the water force would have pushed it away. It sure did make a difference in where the aquatic mint moved.

Ryan, I intended to keep my ponds running, but when I lost power for 22 hours, and the temps were below zero, it didn't take long for the ground and water line to freeze up. I never got the waterfall line unfrozen until just a week or so ago. Can't help it if the power goes off and things freeze hard and fast. And, your daughter sure was interested in her "house move". What a doll, peeking out the window. Sure looks like she was thrilled to have her house to play in now in the back yard.
I agree, Sissy, I think Addy is holding out on us! I think she needs to have a huge party in her large back yard, and invite all of us ponder friends to her house for the weekend to celebrate. :greedy::smuggrin:

CE, I understand what you mean. That was kinda what happened to my friend. Her pumps where running fine that morning and when she got back home that afternoon her pond was iced over. From that day until last friday her pumps hadn't been running. Her PVC line was only 8" deep. I ran a hose from her hot water heater and put the other end in the PVC pipe. Just kept on pushing it in further as the ice would melt. Thought my arms were going to go numb reaching down that far into the waterfall box. Was laying on the ground and was up to the top of my arm in water.

Oh man! I had just moved my water line that feeds the waterfall to the inside curve of the waterfall, so if any line break, water will fall back into the pond. Buried it just under the planter so it was shallow, and the area is above ground level, so it was totally exposed to the weather. I doubt even if the water had still been running that it would have not frozen up. I had to wait for the water to finally trickle past the ice and melt it that way. Kept trying it even other evening, leaving pump running for an hour or so (it runs the fountain, so the pressure didn't build up, as that pump shuts down if pressure builds up), and finally it broke loose.

Oh I wish! I would share it with all my friends! We did not even buy a ticket at either place.

I wrap my hoses inside the pond with pipe wrap insulation .That foam stuff .If power goes out for a short time they are fine plus in the summer it keeps the hoses from getting to hot .But here we do not get as cold as you do for long periods of time .

by the way, if you use the black flexable pond tubing, it will not crack if it freeze's. I also do not insulate my hose as the water never stops flowing all winter, so it does not freeze as I have a good pre-pump filter that can run all winter without clogging up. I never understood why you guys and gals all use the hard PVC pipes, cause they can burst and split when frozen. Then most of you seem to bury them under the pond, what a nightmare to fix if they ever burst... just do the best to hide the flexable tubing along the one side of the pond, where I have rocks to hide the hose, but it is easy to get at if I have to in the dead of winter.

I insulate just in case power goes out and I use sump pump hose and have for years now and I have even seen people put that pipe under there waterfalls too . All my hose runs along the inside edge of the pond and is strapped so it stays there .I really want to get my hose done but filters and fish are more important now.It was just to muddy yesterday to get things done out there .I slipped once and fell and that was enough to convince me it was not worth it .I also wanted to add for years I have used peroxide to clean with and just bought (about 3 weeks ago ) and tried the new lysol power and free multi purpose cleaner and it has peroxide in it .Does it do a great job of cleaning .Showers ,toilets, countertops and flloors and did my blinds also .
