I'm sock :LOL:and tired of being stuck at 30 degrees every day.
OK, I must be typing and hitting "post replay" far too quickly lately! Thanks for pointing these typos out, my friends. I will do my best to review before posting in the future .... :p
Is anyone else getting lots of green spongy looking algae floating to the surface on their ponds? My skimmers are getting clogged with it daily, and that's including netting it out each evening. I'm guessing it's coming up from the bottom of the ponds, mostly the koi pond. Thinking I will just have to wait it out, until the plants start growing in the bogs and lilies in the ponds, and beneficial bacteria gets going. In the meantime, is there anything else I can do?

Group HUG! The snow we had yesterday, around 8 inches is gone today..............sorry Haro, down here it falls then melts, not like you frozen guys up there.

I'd give anything to have 8" of snow melt in a day. That takes around two weeks here unless its abnormally warm.

It happens here more often than not, this year the snow did fall and stick around for a week or so, but usually it is gone in a few days. The winter of 09 it fell and never melted .We had 60 inches of snow that winter. Seemed to fall in 20 inch storms one after another.

Wow Addy- has it only been 5 years since snowmaggdon? I still have nightmares about that one as hubby was stuck at work.
CE- I have the green floating crud in my lotus holding tank. It froze solid this winter so hoping the plants will make it. The frogs and tadpoles survived. I netted out what I could but there is a lot of hornwort mixed in with it so will let it stay until I can get the water moving.

I have a lot of deal looking stuff that I think will get leaves on it in my goldfish pond. The lily pots in the koi pond are covered in green algae. It's like a carpet of it, but pretty sure the lilies will push right through it. Just have to be patient, but we are all so tired of cold, and soooo wanting warm, it's hard to be patient.

Been a crazy last week or so.. The wife and the kids had the flu last week so I was staying home helping take care of them. Friday, I went to work with my dad helping get some projects finished up. He started his own handyman business. On my way home, a good friend of mine who has a 8k gal pond called to let me know she was having problems getting her pond going again this spring. She fried her pump which was causing the breaker to keep tripping. After making a few phone calls, I got her the same pump from the local whole sale supplier. Her pump wasn't cheap. Over $800. After getting that pump installed and some more trouble shooting I figured out that she had 50ft of 2" PVC that had frozen solid since her pumps had been down. She has 2 Tidal Wave pumps on opposite ends of her pond, one for her bog and the other for her stream. Well after being at her house for 4 hrs I was able to get both of her pumps up and going again.

Saturday was yard clean up day. Our backyard was a disaster from this fall. I wasn't able to get out there and do my fall clean up because I had been in the hospital. I filled 5 of those yard waste bags with my leaf shedder vac. We had also gotten a play house for the daycare kiddos last fall and it lived in our front yard until Saturday. We were finally able to get it moved to the back yard too.

Yes CE, Trust Me, smear algae is Very common this time of the year, as nothing else is growing, it is the same thing every year for me, for last 22 years, early spring sun is strong and nothing much else growing good right now except the smear algae. I call is "Smear Algae" cause is floats and looks like a smear of green and does not generally stick to anything too bad like "string algae". I net it out and keep the aquatic mint groomed well of it as well. A simple tool to use is a very long pointy stick and twirl it around like green "cotton candy" by spinning the stick and simply pull out. I see now in the middle pond the koi have been out grooming it for me too. Just keep on top of it till the other plants start growing. Also see if you can create more of a "swift current" as that will keep it down as well. I have this video I did the other day that shows what I do to keep the smear algae at bay. If you are not too tired of my non stop videos, ha ha ha, I must admit I am becoming addicted to U tube now too!
Note: I also posted this on the thread "what does your pond look like today" too
Group hug felt good too! :)
