I'm a little concerned about your hubby Colleen. I know that stretch of road, and there's nothing between you and Brooks.
He has a cellphone, right?

The street lights are reflecting straight up to the sky, cause of the extreme cold, looks odd like a beam of light shooting straight up to the sky hubby says. Ice crystals are frozen in the air and reflect the light straight up!!

Hubby just passed Tilly Alberta right now, outside ambient temperature there is -44 right now, without the wind chill!! Hubby reports lots of big trucks are pulled over on the side of the road. He says that the big diesel trucks have dual tanks that freeze up after its minus 40, and lot of the truck drivers from the United States don't realize this. Where he works and Brooks they all carry a two gallon pail of methanol, they pour that right into the fuel line, and that'll help prevent the diesel fuel from turning to gel. Now the truck drivers have to park and sit on the side of the road and let the truck circulate and heat up....

There are a lot of temperature records being broken. I think this is going to be our whole planet's new normal.
It's great we have all this weather information available to us so we have a better chance to deal with it.

Holy cow, Mitch ... -40C/-40F!!!! Here, it's a balmy 10 degrees earlier this morning. I went outside to feed horses, got tank heater out for their water tank. Been chopping and scooping ice chunks out so far, but decided to put heater in so they can drink more often. Then, while trying to hook up short hose from hydrant to tank, turning it, broke the end off. So, will need to get new hose end. Used a bucket and put about 30 gallons into the tank. It didn't necessarily need more water, but when I turn the hydrant on in this cold of weather, I always run it several minutes so the water doesn't freeze at the top. Filled heated bucket for the cats and dogs, although dogs drink out of the stream. have to remember to fill that morning and evening, so it doesn't go empty. Filled sunflower bird feeder, and tossed some thistle seed on the ground, since thistle feeder got broke. Then took a few pics! Ponds yesterday morning ...

Ponds this morning..

Air bubbler is going very well, keeping large area open in koi pond. Used tank heater to open hole in front of skimmer in goldfish pond, although it was still running, feeding the stream, which is running nicely.

Bog on goldfish pond runs with 4200 gph pump, and is running perfectly as well. Need to change to larger pump for koi pond, as 1600 pump is not doing the trick for the bog in that pond.
This was just a "kodak moment". Went out to the barn, and noticed these dandelions standing up through the snow. :blueflower: No wonder they are such a hardy weed!

I'm not actually at -40 btw, but I'm having some problems with my weather station. Colleen is colder than I have been, I'm pretty sure.
