9F here in the Ozarks. My aerator is still running, but is no longer putting out bubbles in the pond. I'm going to pull it it out and defrost it inside. The pump is still rocking and keeping a nice hole in the ice. I could see the two brightest koi underneath.

I'm amazed at those temperatures up in Alberta. The coldest I've ever been in was about -19 below in Coeur d'Alene. I went outside with my Husky just to experience it.

We still have dandelions blooming, popping up all over the yard. They say we will get some snow tomorrow, an inch will shut down this area (not out here but the dc area) traffic is so horrible.

Tanya, I want to see some pics of your pond setting in the summer! Do you have any pics handy to post here, or have you started another thread that I can view them in? Feel free to post them here, show us what summer looked like. :blueflower: That is a beautiful view you have off your deck! I have flat prairie, not very exciting.

Here is a picture of how the pond looked in the spring when we bought our house. Very overgrown! I might start a thread about my experiences with the pond.

Thank you! The first time I saw this view, I couldn't believe this house took so long to sell. The view makes all the quirks and work worth it.

We now have -12F. Checked pond and where the bubbler is bubbling there's a thin sheet of ice over the open hole. Heated up some water and poured over it and melted some of the ice. Going to pour a little more hot water over it and open it a little more. Bottom of pond temp has been running about 33.3 to 33.5. Ouch! Early this morning since the holes in the ice seemed to be getting smaller I plugged in my 1500 w heater which I placed a couple inches down into the water (wish its cord was longer I'd have it closer to the bottom). The heater also kept a small area open above it. Checked bottom of pond temp a couple mins. ago and it is 35.3 :cheerful: . Don't know if that is due to more of the pond being covered in ice or possibly the heater or both. Oh yeah I also have a 1250 heater a little deeper down into the pond which I've had plugged in for the last couple of days guess I'll unplug it, not sure if its really helped at all. A little bit of sunshine right now.

9 degrees here and had a low of -3 last night suppose to be in the balmy lower teens this afternoon and tonight. Caught this guy at the pond yesterday and then this morning found a pretty almost ice dome over one side of the bubbler...but at least the de-icer is working too!

you need to put your deicer right over your bubbler it will warm the water better I have my deicer right over my pump .I have it tied to a piece of metal conduit so it can only move in that area .These are the led lights I bought .I bought them for the pond and bought the 400 lumen ones for the back yard .

I think it was 6F here last night but warming up now to 27F. Things are freezing up here and last night we had wind like crazy up here which made it feel much colder .........................when I realized I had to go out and cover my baby palm tree up at 10pm Pacific Freezing Time. Darn wind made me say some words I don't usually include in my vocabulary. It was blowing the blankets I was trying to put on off so I finally tied them on real fast like before they could escape off the palm again. My pond is starting to look like I live further north in Canada w/ all you icebergers up there!
