Thanks a lot Howard the Humble!! I have tons of dragonflys hatching out of my pond every year. I knew that they eat some of the babies, but not like that, slowly chewing the poor baby goldfish, bite by bite, while the poor baby tries to squirm away... Going to get therapy now after watching that dragonfly eat the poor baby goldfish alive video that you posted on the last page....... Scared for my LIFE now and I want MY MOM!! :C

We got 16 inches of snow last weekend, but the temperatures have been hovering just above and below freezing this past week.
Probably take another couple of weeks before the snow is totally gone from the yard.
At least the pond is ice free again as of a couple of days ago.

They changed the forecast and claim 71 for a predicted hi. What a change. About 40 now at 1/4 of 9.

My holding pond is lousy with adult dragon flies and I suspect that is why I am not seeing many new faces at feeding time. It is my main motivation for mucking it out. That a getting the koi to their own pond where they can multiply again.

I want to do some selective goldfish breeding. My goal is more robust versions of the standard types so they can more easily outside (and inside). I do not plan to show them.

This was the original motivation for setting up that bank lifts. It was only up a few months and yet I found a mean looking dragon fly larvae when I stowed it away for the fall. So may netting over the top to keep the adult dragon flies from depositing their eggs and a drain and inspection maybe half way through the summer.

I found some dragon fly larva last year in my pond. I was freaked out when I first saw it but once I knew what it was, I thought it was cool. I didn't know that they eat baby fish, but it's the circle of life.

They are called lifts. Because they are made to be moved with a fork lift I assume. Also called liquid shipping containers.

They look like this prior to surgery

That one has a wood base. They also make metal bases which I prefer..
In this part of the world they're called Mini-bins. And they have like a $150. deposit on them!

I sunburned my neck a bit working on the pond hole. We have something called ocean potion. Years ago my future wife introduced me to it when I returned from a water ski weekend feeling like a cooked lobster.

Instant Burn Relief Ice is enriched with lidocaine and nature's healer - aloe vera to help prevent peeling and aid in the healing and replenishment of the skin's natural moisture
So do you rub it on or drink it???
