Light wind, 37 F outside and sun keeps peeking out between the clouds. First sunshine that we've had for sometime. Would love to have some of your temps sissy.

Real nice January night, at 30F, much nicer that what I though we would have by now! The hornwort in my pond is a big crazyball of weed that still looks good in my pond, and it is January! Sissy I bundle up cause I hate the wind and cold breese in my ears and head. Then some days I am sooo darn hot I could just go roll in the snow with Bear! Ha ha ha. It's called middle age syndrome. I am allowed to be hot when it is really cold for most people! Ha ha ha!

Up and down and round about is the norm for our weather. I do believe such may also become the norm for the whole of the country. Even though we had over 24 hours of consistant rain, sleet, hail and snow during Christmas North Texas remains in a offical drought. Terrible for everyone, simply terrible. In our homeland of the Deep South sprinkler systems are generally the exception. Here, without an efficient irrigation system our lawns and gardens would absolutely die. No ifs ands or buts. This lowered our monthly water bill by < > 50%. During the winter months the sprinkler system is turned off. Just recalled that I have an excellent photo showing how our system envelops one section of the yard at a time. I must remember to upload. I took the photo because I admired the contrast of the water spray to the east morning sunshine.

Over the years we transformed our gardens to perennials. Maybe not as glamorous without annuals yet less maintenance, less water and lower gardening costs. This is especially true since I have to depend on hired gardeners.

with a well you could never have a sprinkler system unless you have 2 wells and hope they never go dry .They cost over 4 thousand to drill one now .

I certainly agree Colleen.

Sissy, when we were transferred to North Texas we planned to have a early 1900's style farmhouse built on wooded acreage. Complete with water well, independent septic system and true pond. Upon arrival in NT all of our home building dreams were dashed. No acreage since developers owned all the land. No wooded building sites due to the nearly barren natural geography. No 100% wooden home due to high fire danger (homes must be 80% brick or masonary). No farmhouse due to very restrictive developers home style policies.

We do love our home but it is a far cry from what we truly wanted. I truly envy all of you with your "as you want them" homes.

We are going back up to the 50-60's too warm for this time of year. The peach trees blossomed way before the bugs where out last year, not one peach formed. The plants don't do well without a true dormant time. Even our apple trees had issues with forming apples last summer due to the warm winter.

We all have wells here and mine is over 400 ft. in the ground and had to pull pump 2 times this past summer as first pump went out and second one was defective .We have creeks here but they dry up in the summer unless we get rain and city water has not come out this far .Besides that the pumping station for the city water is not very good as people complain all the time to the city about only getting a trickle of water .We have lots of cows and cow poo so it gets washed into the streams .Fertile water for sure
