Hello

Lou Wrote:
Looks good Ruben. Question, are those Snapping Turtles? If so they eat anything and everything including fish plus fingers and toes.

Oh no Snapping turrtles, They are red ear sliders
Although they will eat fry if they can catch them they are not aggrisive to the other bigger fish.
In fact when it comes to feeding time the koi push them a side hehehe but the turrles get on my hand and don't bite.

67* and getting windy here. We are 50 miles from the Chesapeake bay so getting ready for Sandy. Canopy from deck is down and lawn furniture strapped down. I brought in some firewood and have reloaded all the flashlights with batteries. I'm hoping to get my solar lights fully charged. They are great to bring in when the power goes out. Both ponds have extra netting to keep leaves and debris out. We braved the local Lowes yesterday to get more extension cords for the generators. I'm hoping being over- prepared means we won't get hit too hard.

Colleen, go back about 5 responses on this thread, Ruben gave link to his/her thread with the turtle pics! Love the turtles, Ruben! I had a baby that showed up first year (last year) and stayed all summer. Then, this spring, I was positive it was the same turtle, although larger, that came back. Came for feeding time right off. Then 2 more showed up, but they have all been gone for well over a month. I'm hoping that they are not the culprit that this past spring caused my bog in the koi pond to have a leak. Looked like a scratch rip on the bottom corner of the bog, and if a turtle was trying to bury itself in there, that might have been the issue! I still love having them around. Very curious and fun to watch. I have a really cute video of my baby turtle last summer trying to get food and the koi swooshing him aside, but it's too large to load here. Maybe have it on YouTube, will check and post if I do.
Yep, I'm concerned about our eastern sea ponders, too. Not heard from them for a while. Hoping all is safe with them! They will check back in as soon as they are able. Praying for you guys!
And, I'm a Murphy's Law person! Brought plants into the garage this morning, cause if I left them out, it would get cold and stay cold, but since I brought them in, it will probably get warm again! :)

Sending you a prayer Addy, stay safe keep us updated if possible... when is it supposed to hit close to you?
I have a feeling our eastern coast ponders are getting hit! Not heard from Sissy since yesterday a.m., and same with Addy! Hope you ladies and all others over there are safe! Will be anxious to hear from you all after the storms hit, and that you are safe and sound, and praying for no damage as well.
I had 34F this a.m., but bright sunshine, and windy. Up to 41 now, not going to get much more than low 50's though.

8am monday it will be right off the coast, tuesday 8am it will be right over us, per what they say right now, right now 600 miles wide. I haven't had time to post, been getting ready for the possible bad sandy. Had to get dirt around the just dug in 1k pond, make sure the dirt was mounded correctly so the mud and run off would not run into the big pond.

Had to get the propane tank covered and tucked in, they can float if the hole gets full of water.

Then putting all the stuff away that migrates all by itself from where it belongs and ends up everywhere! Moved all furniture that might blow, tucked cars into the garage, moved a ton of dirt reshaping the side yard I just dug up so the water will flow better, if it rains like they say.

HD and Lowes had lines of 100 plus people waiting for deliveries of generators. We just went to get a connection for our drain line.......... Everybody is sort of panic state right now. We will be fine, have a generator that runs, have food, water, flashlights, batteries............... Our power usually does not go out, we are not that close to the coast, but could easily get wind and a ton of rain. Only time will tell. it was supposed to start raining today, now tomorrow, so not getting rain as fast as they said we would. Right now the prediction is 2-5 inches each day starting monday. Wait and see, it changes constantly.

Will post as long as we don't lose power.

glad to see you are prepared Addy. Hopefully you are far enough west to not get hit too hard but you are in the snow zone. Hubby is working all week (always is when the weather is bad) so I'm on my own for the most part. As he works as a flight medic, the hospital will probably anounce an alert and he will have to stay at work. At least he won't be flying. Stay safe and hopefully this storm will pass fast.

Was supposed to take care of all the outside things today, but procrastinating:-( Still watching the news to see where Sandy is supposed to land. Wish they could get it figured out. We are not as at risk as NJ, but being surrounded by water, will take a double assault from the wind and rain ... Definately not good for our beaches:-(

Here are the videos I took last summer of the baby slider turtle when he first was noticed in the pond.
Hope they come out ok! Oops, I see I posted the first one previously, so it won't let it be viewed again. So, just one video of the baby.
So glad you're just busy battening down the hatches, Addy. You had quite a bit of finishing up before the heavy rains come. Glad you're getting things done. Hope you don't float away!

Hang in there mrsclem.............. We might get snow, not supposed to snow in elevations lower than 1500 ft, but they are mainly predicting rain. We are ready, mainly had to get things picked up, honey made sure we had gas charged batteries. I took the tractor and loaded the bucket full of stuff, hauled back and put in rightful home.
