This is the exit of my bog, which flows under my bridge, under the incomplete waterfall, and back into the pond.

You can tell it's hot in Seattle when I have the umbrella and fan out to cool our pump motor. We had a motor overheat two summers ago, so I'm overcautious. It's a 14,000 gph pump, so it runs hot to begin with. I should probably build a pump house some day but for now, my free casino umbrella does the trick. If you'll notice, I cover all exposed valve handles to protect them from UV damage. I replaced two previously that became brittle.View attachment 82080View attachment 82081
That looks like creeping primrose. Small yellow flowers at the ends of the stalks. Here is the bloomer from the pond that I thought was a lily. I'm just glad to get some more color in the bog.

Great idea using the sun shade, C-Note. We get about four hours of direct sun on our pond in the summer here too (from 10:30 to 2:30) in Bothell. I love your dropcam setup. I'd like to get something similar for iphone predator surveillance. That way, when a trout disappears from time to time, I'll at least know whether a heron, raccoon, osprey or hungry neighbor was the culprit.Likewise, @Troutredds . I'm down in Federal Way, and it's been HOT! I went as far as digging, pouring concrete for 4 ten-foot posts, and mounting shade sails to give the pond a little relief from all the direct sun. It's made an enormous difference for both temperature and algae growth. Here's a screen capture from the pond cam right this minute. You can see all the triangular shade hard at work. But it lets in enough sun at different times of day so plants and all can thrive.
