Here is the bloomer from the pond that I thought was a lily. I'm just glad to get some more color in the bog.

You can tell it's hot in Seattle when I have the umbrella and fan out to cool our pump motor. We had a motor overheat two summers ago, so I'm overcautious. It's a 14,000 gph pump, so it runs hot to begin with. I should probably build a pump house some day but for now, my free casino umbrella does the trick. If you'll notice, I cover all exposed valve handles to protect them from UV damage. I replaced two previously that became brittle.View attachment 82080View attachment 82081

Likewise, @Troutredds . I'm down in Federal Way, and it's been HOT! I went as far as digging, pouring concrete for 4 ten-foot posts, and mounting shade sails to give the pond a little relief from all the direct sun. It's made an enormous difference for both temperature and algae growth. Here's a screen capture from the pond cam right this minute. You can see all the triangular shade hard at work. But it lets in enough sun at different times of day so plants and all can thrive.

Great idea using the sun shade, C-Note. We get about four hours of direct sun on our pond in the summer here too (from 10:30 to 2:30) in Bothell. I love your dropcam setup. I'd like to get something similar for iphone predator surveillance. That way, when a trout disappears from time to time, I'll at least know whether a heron, raccoon, osprey or hungry neighbor was the culprit.

A few shots today and tonight...
It rained last night and made a couple of my gaillardia flowers resemble coneflowers.

Found a dragonfly larvae in my bog.

another gaillardia shot. I have nearly 20 Gaillardia plants in around my yard, so I have a lot of photos of them.

I also found a water lily bud on the surface today! Can't wait to see them start opening. I've only been waiting 8 months!

Closeup of water willow (courtesy of Addy). It's been putting out blooms for the last few weeks. Those little white butterfly things really LOVE these flowers.

Here's an astilbe growing just outside the bog in full, beautiful bloom:

And some other flowers out and about my yard:

Another Astilbe, pilfered from my mom's house before they sold last year, nestled in a bed of hosta, a Golden Shadows pagoda dogwood and various Bleeding Heart:

Potentilla Melton Fire. Bought last year, and it didn't do much. Came back this year and recovered nicely after transplanting it away from the construction. The ferny-looking foliage you see around it is sweet annie -- leaves smell DIVINE:

I'm betting I'll have my first water lily bloom tomorrow! If I remember correctly, I think it's my pale yellow lily.

Hey al! I haven't been on the computer in a few weeks. I've been real busy with work and projects around the house. I'll share the 3 new additions to the property later So, I have been seeing this strange bird around, the past few days. I just saw him again, while sitting on the patio. He flew and perched in a tall pine on the other side of the pond. He wasn't missing a single movement. I turned my back for a few seconds, and heard this really loud splash in the pond. It dove from 75 feet up into the pond, and came out with a trout. I couldn't believe it. A heron can't even get close to them. I thought they were safe from any bird around here. I checked bird sounds and images online and sure enough, it was an Osprey. I wonder what you do in a case like that?

There is a nesting pair on the gulf, near where my parents are in FL and I've watched them successfully fish many times. They are a beautiful bird, but I can' understand you'd prefer them to fish elsewhere!
