Pretty sure it depends on the type of irises. Bulb irises (like Bearded) do not like a wet environment. Rhizome type irises like Louisiana and Japanese do fine in bog/wet environments. I have a Siberian iris that i'm experimenting with in water (just put a small piece in 2 days ago) but i've read mixed reviews as to whether it will work in an aquatic environment.
Come to think of it, I do think they were bulbs when my dad planted them.

Those plants catch a bunch of bugs, they stink when I groom them in the fall or spring, pitchers full of bugs.

You can tell it's hot in Seattle when I have the umbrella and fan out to cool our pump motor. We had a motor overheat two summers ago, so I'm overcautious. It's a 14,000 gph pump, so it runs hot to begin with. I should probably build a pump house some day but for now, my free casino umbrella does the trick. If you'll notice, I cover all exposed valve handles to protect them from UV damage. I replaced two previously that became brittle.

Yep, Zman is correct. They are day lilies - Stella D'oro to be exact.
