Took a quick photo of another type of Blue-Eyed Grass I added next to my bog today. Probably could've gone in the bog, too, but I'm working on replacing the Sweet Woodruff which didn't handle the sunlight very well this year. Still undecided, maybe I'll move it to the bog at some point.

I also put a new glider in place of my old wooden bench. I don't really like the look of it but it's comfortable and has a nice sun shade. No pics of it though.

It is a iris, the flowers only last a few days, but while they are open they are beautiful. Love that color btw!

Can anybody tell me what type of plant this is? I dont know much about plants...but this flower bloomed 2 days ago and already seems to be shriveling up. Why??

Like addy said, it's some kind of Iris. They don't last long at all. Usually 2-4 days. With larger clumps, they'll shoot up more flowers and you'll get a couple weeks worth of blooms.

I think this is called Bee Balm. Much different than the wild Bee Balm I know.

JB, I don't think that first one is Bee Balm (Monarda). It looks different than any Bee Balm i've ever seen. Monarda has a distinctive and wonderful smell when you rub on the leaves (the leaves can be dried and used for tea). Here's one I have (not my pic, but mine should be blooming in a few weeks:

Unless yours is a different type? In any case, everything is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I had a blue-eyed grass but lost track of it and it got smothered by sedum =/ Your pics make me miss it!

I don't believe it to be Monarda, just a different plant with the same name probably because of the similar petal shape. Both the flower and the leaves are much different than the Wild Bergamot I grow.

Blue-Eyed Grass is easily becoming one of my favorite native plants!

I have irises growing all around my house but they never grow in my pond even when I have them planted above water level. How do you guys do it?
Pretty sure it depends on the type of irises. Bulb irises (like Bearded) do not like a wet environment. Rhizome type irises like Louisiana and Japanese do fine in bog/wet environments. I have a Siberian iris that i'm experimenting with in water (just put a small piece in 2 days ago) but i've read mixed reviews as to whether it will work in an aquatic environment.

The main Iris in my bog and pond - Blue Flag Iris - is a native plant that specifically grows in wetlands, so it can handle it. Not all Irises can, but quite a few can tolerate wetter conditions to an extent.
