I'll just stick to outside concerts...........not that I ever go to them anymore anyways but if I did, just sayin! Hate the smoke and noise that went w/ them back then also. Could not even carry on a conversation when the bands played in a tavern. Guess after a drink or too who cared back then tho. All was fun, fun, fun and not many cares in the world to worry about! That's what those kids thought and then the world ended for a lot of them that awful night!

You're right about the noise when a band plays. I'm beginning to dislike going to a bar that the band has to crank it up so loud you cannot possibly talk while they are playing ... unless I'm listening to my favorite band that plays song after good song, and I'm dancing. LOL The good thing is you don't have to deal with the smoke any longer. No more smokey clothes when you get home, strip off in the garage. Yuck! I cannot imagine being in a bar that the door monitors did not know there was a fire going on, and didn't let people out! The press of the crowd must have not let the doors open once it was figured out. So very sad.

Re - The nightclub fire

Around 1960 our home burnt to the ground. A trucker saw the fire as he was driving. Thanfully he stopped, ran to our house and woke up our parents by pounding on the front door. My big sister calmly scooped me up in her arms then ran out of the inferno. Sister and I then huddled together on the front yard as everything burned. There were many rumors, some horrific, as to the cause of the fire and who if anyone was responsible. That was just the beginning.

The usual. To those looking from the outside life appeared normal but inside anything but. Love and caring insanely mixed with violence, death, brain washing, betrayual and heartbreak. Impacted my whole outlook on life. Thought I could simply "lock" it away deep in my mind. Life did change for the better. Loving wife and children achieved. Twenty year military career achieved. College education achieved. Very successful post military thirteen year corporate work achieved. Then surprise! Health takes a nose dive. Active life and new career comes to a grinding halt. So what else could happen? Surprise again! All the early years came flooding back when PTSD opened that old "lock".

Too quick on the draw J.W. My brief summary is posted right before your quote. Took me some time to write it in a way that is socially acceptable. Just noticed an omission. The "Love and caring...." sentence should begin with "A mothers love and caring.....".

Not to worry my friend. I'm a survivor and truly blessed.

Well, I want to know if the police ever found out who started the fire, or was it an accident? Sounds like someone set it, thus the violence, betrayal, brain washing, etc. comments. I just hope that the perpetrator had to pay for his/her actions. How awful for a family to have to go through a fire set on their own home. Awful! Very glad you are a survivor, along with all of your family.

Thank you CE.

We lived in a very rural South Alabama hamlet of only < > 300 souls in a then very stylish modern home. I was told the hot water heartier exploded. Our home had then trendy Florida windows from which you could not escape. Without the alert truck driver no one would have survivored. Along with our home my Dad's hardware store some 25 or so yards away from the house also burned. The hardware and home building business were already in the midsts of bankruptcy. Rumors flew about that one of our parents intentionally set the fire. There was little investigation. Several years ago I met with a Fire Marshall here in Texas. He told me that in 1960 gas hot water heaters were still somewhat primitive and could started the blaze. Even with this explanation my doubts remain due to the severe money problems and other issues. No one was ever brought to justice.

Dad passed in 1964, Mother in 1974, hero Sister in 1991, father figure Brother in 2009. Thankfully my eldest brother remains. To this day I grieve wondering what my siblings experienced during their childhood. Two last closing comments. I had been a very spoiled young child so this makes the "troubles" even more blizzard. After onset of my PTSD I conducted my own private family investigation. Within the last five years Mother's favorite sister confirmed the deep routed hatred between my parents and many other dark secrets.

Mothers, teach your children well.

Very well said, JW!!! Ditto to that! It never ceases to amaze me how some people, through brought up through some horrific trials and tribulations, become such warm caring individuals in their lives. Obviously, your wonderful wife, Cathy, has helped you through your turmoil over the years. Thanks for sharing your story. It's uplifting to know that you have conquered so much.

Hey Everybody!
Please go to YouTube and watch "Future DJ......Just like Daddy!".

In the video our son Sean is teaching our 6 year old grandson Christon how to scratch. Scratching is a DJ or turntablist technique used to produce distinctive sounds by moving a vinyl record back and forth on a turntable while optionally manipulating the crossfader on a DJ mixer.

Thanks
