Your right ce, they don't, want to be entertained at all times. What ever happened to just sitting down and reading a book?
Fishy, I turned on a computer one day and joined a Pond forum, then another, then another, haven't sat down and read a good book in a long time. To busy reading/posting in forums. LOL

hey all i descovered the other day i have a rat visiting the compost bin for the veg scraps, nightmare, i have put 2 live catch traps down with bait in them but it wont go into them !, i think with all the veg scraps in there it doesnt see the need to go in the traps for the bait, think i might have to try some other method, seems to be quite a few of the around at the moment, i think with all the rain and flooding we have had this last week it has pushed them up out of the drains, also the area i live is completely undermined with old coal mine shafts, they will be full of them also !

Make sure you cover the live catch cages, just leave the front open. Then they think they are heading into a nice cozy space to grab some food

They love peanut butter, smear some on crackers.

I think facebook and all those stupid things kids do on them cause more problems than they are worth .It is good to connect with friends but seems teens use them to threaten each other and only think of sitting on there butts bragging about how many friends they have on there and not really meeting people and enjoying sun and wind and even rain on there skins .We make it worse by giving them every thing they want instead of working for it .My sons want it they pay for it .But they are grown too .Meant to say chihuly glass has tons of video's on you tube showing his work and some of the exhibits at some of the gardens he has done .

One Saturday morning many years ago I happened to notice one of the yard caretakers intently looking at the fish in our pond. After walking up beside him the gentleman smiled then said in a mixture of spanish and english that our fish were so beautiful and must be very good to eat. Obviously I was bemused by his compliment so I carefully explained that we do not eat these fish. We raise them for their beauty and as pets. Looking bewildered himself the man shook his head, said something completely in spanish which I could not understand then returned to his yard work.
Funny, Lou, I have a similar story. Went to fast Chinese place in town for lunch one day. After ordering, told them I would be right back. When I returned 10 minutes later, they asked where I had gone. Told them to get horse feed. They said, "Oh, do you eat them?" Me: "Eat what? The horse?" After the nod yes, I explained no, I ride them have them for pleasure and pets. They probably had the same bewildered look on their face. LOL
I have Facebook, to pass photos back and forth to my family, and have gathered more "friends" than I would like. Yes, the teenagers say such stupid stuff. Slamming a "friend" one day, loving them the next. How can they act like that??? I get on computer every morning and evening, FB, GPF and my e-mail. Otherwise, I either read (on my Ipod, since books are free LOL), or cross stitch. I also do Sudoku puzzles. Try to keep the mind sharp. Hooked on those puzzles. LOL Do them when I'm caught up at work, too.
My kids were raised in the country, we did not have cable (not available) and antenna got few stations. They fished and hunted (son), rode and trained their horses (daughter), walked around in the woods, made things out of sticks and leaves. They were kids. They were not allowed all the computerized gadgets, but then there weren't that many back 20 years ago. They did not get all they wanted, but they had plenty. Kids these days have 2 parents working, and to make up for time away from their kids, they buy them everything. It's the worst thing! Also, parents these days do the "time out" and never spank their kids. I think that's wrong, too. Kids need discipline. I'm not talking about beating your kids, I'm talking about a quick swat on the butt when they do wrong. My ex had a short board he made one day while I was at work, and used it on our kids. I was FURIOUS!!! He is a strong man, that was uncalled for, and I burned the board. The next day, there was another one on the counter, his way of saying don't cross him. I burned that one, too! At that time, our kids were 14 and 15, and a board was NOT necessary! They have always been good kids, he was in a bad mood, took it out on them. When I got home the night he beat them with the board, they were both in their rooms, had been crying, daughter still was crying. She'd never been hit with a board. I couldn't NOT back up my husband, but I sure let HIM know that it was WRONG, and he'd better never do it again! I've never been so furious in my life!!!
OK, off my soap box! My kids survived, they believe in kids playing outside, healthy fun play, and not sitting inside on a computer all day. They grew up and are super kids! Very proud of them both.

When your soulmate is also your best friend a marriage or relationship is just that much better. Like the other night I said "I feel strange" to which wifey replied "That is because you are strange!". We both had a good laugh and suddenly I felt better. Cathy can be critical but doesn't sound critical. Stuff like that. She recently mentioned, again, that I tend to ask folks too many questions meaning I'm too nosy. That one hit home since I love to talk and ask questions. So my pond loving friends if ol' Big Lou has ever been too nosy with you I hope you will accept my apology.

Maybe try putting something the rat is eating in the trap or use the old fashion "snap" rat traps. I hate rats.

we get lots of field mice from the woods and you have to watch because they will even get in the engine of your vehicle and chew wires and hoses .

i get loads of mice (despite having a cat) but i dont mind the mice i often put food out for the mice if its really cold weather, (my cat margery gets grouned if she catches mice!!!) i just dont want the rats about as i have the pond and ethan plays in the garden, but however due to my personal beliefs i wont kill the rat, i will either try to discourage it from coming or if it gets caught in the live trap a friend of mine will dispose of it, (via air rifle) but i couldnt do it myself !

Being raised in the country, field mice, tiny moles and the like were a common site. I often worked on our neighbors big farm. Most of their corn was raised to be feed for chickens and pigs. Their corn cribs were a feasting place for little gray mice. Boys being boys we had such great fun throwing whole ears of shucked corn at mice scurring about in the cribs. I'm quite sure we hit few if any at all. Those lttle rascals were soo fast.

Mice are one thing rats are another. Living only 30 minutes from the port city of Mobile us boys would sometimes pile into my best friends old car and go to the shipping docks to look at the big ships. Occasionally, we would catch sight of those horrid massive wharf rats. Some seemed to be the size of cats! Those creatures are the things nightmares are made from.
