My up bringing was strict, after I turned 18 I left the church and never looked back really. I too did not want that for my kids, SO as you can emagine THEY ARE OUT OF CONTROL! Lol. No they aren't, I'm joking, but it did change the way I see life and choices, I want my kids to make their own choices ( within reason lol, and some good moral poking along the way ) and learn from them, good or bad. I was taught, and made choices, by fear and of going to Hell if I didn't make the correct one ( according to their guidelines ). I didn't want that for my children. Hopefully I'm doing it right, but all you can do is instill a moral back ground and hope you've done right by them. No regretes for the things I learned as a child, it's made me who I am today.

My dad always said just because you are a woman does not mean you are weak and told me to be strong in mind and body and never say I can't do any thing I want ,but with limits also .Think first .
You had a very wise father, Sissy! Nice to hear your parents decided to leave and live a life as they saw fit. I met some Amish a couple of months ago, and was very impressed by how the children had no ipods connected to their ears, were not texting left and right, but enjoying good old fashioned fun with their horses and sack races, etc. It was refreshing! Sometimes I think we all need to be a little more "Amish" and go back to the "good old days". No, I would not want to be totally Amish, just think they are on the right track not advancing so fast with electronics as most kids have. It is ruining kids these days. They don't know how to "play".

When I was driving home from WI on Sunday, after having my brother with me for 4 days (and feeling the need to "babysit" him, as he has no hygiene, and doesn't notice when he makes a mess, etc. ..), I felt I deserved some cream rum! My favorite brand is not carried any longer, Cruzan, but they had lots of other brands. Got a large bottle of Sean's and another bottle that I'd not heard of before. They all pretty much taste like Bailey Irish Creme. Tonight, I'm sitting here drinking some Sean's, didn't have any milk to mix with it, so used some of my coffee creamer, International Coffee White Chocolate Macadamia! OMG, is that yummy!!! :luxlove:

One Saturday morning many years ago I happened to notice one of the yard caretakers intently looking at the fish in our pond. After walking up beside him the gentleman smiled then said in a mixture of spanish and english that our fish were so beautiful and must be very good to eat. Obviously I was bemused by his compliment so I carefully explained that we do not eat these fish. We raise them for their beauty and as pets. Looking bewildered himself the man shook his head, said something completely in spanish which I could not understand then returned to his yard work.
