My hubby found a small white garden spider that looked kinda like that one in his salad the other night. Got the lettuce from a neighbors garden. I had to rescue it and rinse it off a bit and set it free

I had a pair of Belted Kingfishers flying around the pond and perching on the fence this morning. They have been nesting in the woods not far from the ponds for the last 3 years. They make a loud, wild clicking sound. Very unique. Here is a video I got off the internet. The pair around my house are more attractive than the ones in the video.

I found a dead turtle on my patio by the pond. Head trauma. About the size of a silver dollar. I hope I didn’t step on him. I don’t think. It was quite hard. Maybe a snapper?

It's that time of year when I need to be very careful working around the pickerel rush - the saddleback caterpillars seem to really love it & you do NOT want to touch one (even a little, by accident, which I've done before - OUCH!)

I do love their big, fake eye spots, though!

I pretty much avoid touching caterpillars of any sort, unless I'm DANG sure it's not going to leave me in pain or with a rash. At least these little guys are very obvious with their defenses! The one time I accidently brushed my hand against one of them I was pushing the pickerel rush aside to take a picture of a frog who was across the way & WHAM! I had no idea what 'stung' me until I inspected the plant & there he was. Now I know to keep a close eye out for them while creeping around the pond late in the Summer.

What a beautiful creature, but their venom is no laughing matter. One of many to avoid.
