Sissy, I was thinking the same thing, but you said it best!!! Looking good, Addy. Can't wait to see the "addition", like you need more pond and streams on your place. I think your backyard will be in a magazine someday! It's super!!!

Addy, when you get a chance post a pic from the hill side up to where your new project is going in. When I first saw the project I thought this was in showcase. I went back and re-read through some of the chit chat and realized you are work in progress. I can't tell where you are going with the water in relation to your deck.

Sure will do this am

We are going to hit 99 today, so they say, won't get any work done on it. Need to mow before I can't handle being outside.

It started out being, a water fall below the deck, to a just above the stream water flow off the deck, to being a mini pond on the deck, my hubbies suggestion!

Will update the show case, but once we have an idea of where we are going with it lol

country............hubby said, lets add a mini stream on the deck, then next day, lets make it bigger, add a small pond, plant it, bring up a lily (he has learned lol) He even said you will have more bio filtration!

Yesterday he stayed home to work on it.............off to home depot for more lumber. We are building the frame out of 4x4's. Of course I need to figure out how to dress it, i.e. hide the liner the 4x4's etc.

Addy, you are so very creative, you will have it dressed out the best, I have no doubt. We are all anxious to see it, and I agree with Fishin, I'd like to see a pic from the bottom looking up, if you can get all the streams, ponds, etc. in the same pic. When I realized your bog was so huge, thought it was another one of your ponds, I realized how small mine is. Already thinking about extending the bog before I cut the excess liner off! LOL Have more on that side so could easily do that. :) And, already thinking about moving my skimmer into one of the corners where there is more liner, too, so it is more hidding in the wall. Maybe then it won't try to "float" when plants, etc. get it clogged up during the day. Think I have the floating plant thing taken care of for now, though, with the floating rings. Have the floaty ring around the fountain to hold it in the middle, then feed the fish in that ring, too. :)

If you are wanting to tuck your liner between the 4x4's just take a router and take off enough of the 4x4 to allow the liner space and the 4x4 to set flat on top of the liner .All you would need to do is go 1/4 inch deep and maybe 3 inches wide .

Here you go fishin,

I measured the drop, it is a 5 foot drop to the bottom of the small pond.

blue tarp is pointing in the direction the water needs to flow

The end of the garden hose is close to the bottom of the small pond, where the water will fall into.

If you look towards the top center of the picture you can see some water flowing in streams that is the temporary water flow into the stream. just to the right of the bbq That is where the deck ponds will flow into the stream and down the hill.

Sissy, I am going to have the liner go to the top of the 4x4 and over the top of the ones between the two small ponds. But thanks for the idea, that would work great and we even have a router.

CUT NO LINER! lol..............I have always just tucked mine away and eventually end up pulling it out and using the extra length to increase the size............

Good idea about the skimmer and making your bog bigger.

Addy, is your bog what I saw at the bottom of the last picture? Is it deep enough for your fish, or are they farther down ... or up the hill?
Yes, great idea, I will definitely not cut any liner. Only problem I have is that I'm planing to run the liner over the area I COULD extend my bog into, to make the waterfall area, which will turn back that direction. I don't have that much extra liner, but I may cut it just where I need it for the waterfall area, and then keep the rest and tuck it under for possible bog expansion in the future.
Bought 6 more lilly "Drop and Grow" plants at Menards for half price $5 ... then got back to office and noticed they charged me full price! Turns out they forgot to remove the sale tags, but I get them half price. Went back after work to get the other $32 back. Woohoo! They are awesome! I bought 3 last week, one had shoots about 2" tall, but in 2 days the leaves were at the top of the water, the pots were 2' down on the ledge! I could not believe they grew that fast. I figure at that price I could take a chance. Picked ones that had nice starts - red, pink and white, 2 of each. Will not expect them to bloom this year, but have lots of "shelf space".

In the last picture at the bottom is the bog, all pea gravel and plants, right next to it is the pond, 5 feet deep at its deepest. The pond is technically further up the hill from the bog, but level with the bog.

OK, gotcha. I just went out in lightening and took a chance to get the 6 lillies in the water. Stupid, I know, but I'm still alive. LOL How deed is the water/pea gravel in your bog? I don't remember reading it in your bog thread, but I know you told me 2' or so is good. And, are you saying you have lines of pipe under that whole area for the water to be pumped from underneath the pea gravel feeding the bog area? I say it again .... WOW!!! No wonder you have such super filtration!

The lines run 27 feet more or less, one up each side. Slots cut every 6-10 inches, one third of the way through the pipe. My pea gravel is around 2 feet deep, plus or minus lol.

Bog sites state the pea gravel should be around 12-18 inches.

Glad you did not get struck down! Bet you get some flowers, it is not too late.

Oh, great, I sure hope so! I got dark red, red, pink, white and I think yellow the last time. Should be pretty, and I know I needed more surface coverage, and figured these were cheap, and the first ones I bought had little starts maybe 2" high, and by 2 days later, they were 24" to the water surface! That amazed me! I have quite an assortment in the bog, some of which could be moved to the shelves, too, but wanted them to get a good start in shallower water first. I think the ones that can stay in the pond over winter will get put on the shelf as it should easily be below the freeze line.

Oh, and I'm already rethinking the bog, looking at possibility of extending it before I do the waterfall area! Thanks for your great advice. I love the way you can do and then change and redo and still enjoy it all the time! No wonder everyone says a work in progress, labor of love, ponds are all these things for sure.

Simply gorgeous pictures once again, Addy! I love that bronze and orange colored goldfish in the second to last picture! Very unusual! I bought a feeder that is similarly marked, I search for him each time I feed, but usually only see him about once a week. Never comes up to eat, but I catch a glimpse when he's surfing the edges eating algae. :) If my place looks half as beautiful as yours someday, I will be happy as can be! Given I have flat yard, I don't have the added picturesque view you have, but I will make do with what I have and make it my own showplace. :)
