Guess they only live 1-3yrs and says they survive in 33 - 100F temps. Do yours survive in your pond each year addy? Oh and I guess they don't bother your fish eggs cuz you have tons of beautiful fry. Dog gone it addy you are gonna have to start selling the fry someday cuz they are populating like crazy :dunno:

They are only in my lotus pond the 300 gallon rubbermaid tank. I have not had any over a winter here yet, not sure if they will do ok or not. The pond got down to 32 last year, but that temp was the thermometer frozen in ice.

But I also have seen some goldie frys in there too. Have not seen those adults since I put them in either, they are so good at hiding and now the lotus cover most of the surface area.

Will be interesting to see if they survive cuz if they do there then they will for sure survive here and since they reproduce pretty well one would always have a supply and they would be good for keeping skeeters out of lily tubs etc.

I really like the grand scale of your pond. I especially like the way you incorporate the hillside in your project. I've considered renting a tractor to move some sand around. One day... For now I use a shovel and a wheelbarrow. What a great inspiration you provide for the members of the forum. Thanks, Rob

Thank you rob, It has been fun. The slope was just so hard to mow, is what started all of this. I slammed into the apple trees one time too many mowing.

We have the land which makes it nice to build a pond. And I have a hubby that bought me a tractor and said build one! lol

OMG Addy, just looked at your showcase and your pond is amazing. I can't believe how much everything has grown. It looks like it has been there years. Super, Super. We talking about the stream coming off our deck but weren't sure about how to approach it. Yours looks cool!! BTW, where is a good place to get fish around here. I don't want Koi just goldies and such. Thanks

ummmmmmmmmmm I got mine at wally world........................they were getting rid of them to put in new fish tanks. A mix of goldfish and shubunkins. So far the babies are growing up to be very pretty. All different colors. Have some real dark ones that are showing subunkin colors, reds and orange.

Darn time out......................

Thanks pond maven, I really do love it and being out in the back yard.

The deck stream is a work in progress lol, not sure how it will finally turn out. Not sure yet, what we will have the water start from, but do have a liner lol.

the triangle will be the start, the water source will be near the 6x6, it will waterfall (small waterfall) into the straight pond/stream, then off the deck into the pond that starts the stream, about a 4 foot drop. Need to redo that pond just a little, bring it further back so the water hits right.

That was a our first thought, just the straight little stream with the pot supplying the water.

Then honey said yesterday lets do this! so off to get more wood, the pot is gone, well not in use right now, may just end up being a pot in the pond.

Yeah we might sissy, I am going to have to monitor that. So far with our test blue liner flow the splash was not bad, it falls into the pond, need to move some rocks it was hitting.

If it turns out to be bad, I can do a step down fall, just build it from under the deck out.
