Would you mind if I use some pictures from your post like showing the steps in building a pond ? I will write the site from where i took and the creater of it(anyway i have to because it's a scientific paper)

Looking forward to hearing from you

Have a great day,

Yes you may, if you need better pictures, rather than copied from the site. I can email you some.

And thanks for the compliment it was a JOB lol, first pond I have built on a slope. We are heading home soon so will have access to them.

This is quite the build addy1. Very nice! I will be moving in the next few months and am looking forward to redoing my pond. I have learned so much over the last 5 years(mostly from my mistakes).

Well thanks all for the compliments. I have enjoyed working on it (well all the tons of rocks was a little hard) This year we should see the plants take off and maybe finally see the fish lol.

My honey said it was to keep me out of trouble lol, but I have always enjoyed working on projects, this was a little more intense than I thought it would be, the slope was a pita.

The critters sure love it, birds bathing frogs froging.......surprising how they find a pond once it is there. Even the water bugs, makes you wonder how they got there.

I wish sometimes I had some of your rocks. No rocks here to speak of, but it sure made my dig tons easier! Now, though, I need rocks!!! Hate to buy them, so they will come as I find them and add them. Other things will hold the liner in place for now. :)

Not our dug up rocks country............they turn to mush when exposed to the weather. Very soft shale type rocks. All the rocks I used we either hauled from our land in penna or bought. The rock budget got smashed by the rocks bought last year .............tons........... 5 pallets of boulders, stacking rocks, river rocks...........2800 lb of pea gravel ...........on and on lol. No wonder my hands gave out! Now the only rocks that get put here are any free ones I can find that are not our mush rocks.

Isn't it a shame when you have to buy something like rocks and others complain about all the rocks they have .makes you wonder huh.I know I have so many rocks from my property it is unbelievable .Sometimes wonder where they can all come from .But my neighbor down the road could not find a rock on her property at all .I had to give her some for around her pond

Just found your pond project. We live in MD also and will be soon starting our next pond. We have had three ponds at our previous homes and are starting again here in MD. Are you finished with your pond? Since your last post was 4/2010 I expect you are finished and enjoying it. Last week we visited Lily Pons near Frederick where our son and his family live. Very cool out there.

Wow you are close (I was raised in rockville), nope not done yet..............still need to finish the top pond on the stream. But it is coming alive this year! Still need to finish the water line, electric, rocks, hide a lil liner ...............it never stops lmao. but to a non diagnostic eye it looks done and great.

My hubby drives to bethesda to work just so we could live rural.

Feel free to come and visit, would be neat. I went out to lily pons, maybe a 25 min drive from our house, but, lol, their prices were too high imho. (el cheapo here)

I have a bunch of bog, pond etc plants growing great, don't buy them when you are ready will share some. esp by the end of the year they will have gone crazy in growth. Most are rated for zone 6-7 which we are.

I need to update my build post, taking shots to do that, just have not gotten around to it.

Hi stevendeede, Welcome to the forum! They usually recommend that you post an introduction if you are just joining so people can say hi and learn what you are doing. Good luck on your new pond.

Thanks CometKeith, this is my first time at interacting with a forum. I don't particularly like sharing my thoughts publicly so have avoided most forms of social networking. But ponds are worth it! LOL We moved to MD from NM in 2009 and will be adding a pond to our backyard. Our last pond in NM was about 3000 gal with short stream, waterfall, bridge and lots of plants and fish. While building that pond my best friend babysat our fish. Her son had given me all my starter plants and when he accidentally killed all his plants I gave him his plants back and then he gave me some back when we got our pond done. Worked great. Also had a friend who brought blue gill and bass to keep our koi company.

We have to build a new deck before the pond gets going but since I "earn my keep" with manual labor, I get to work on projects while my husband is at work all week. I have spent hours sitting in various locations in the backyard making sure we pick the best spot for the pond. Our grandson who remembers our pond in NM keeps asking when we are going to get our new pond, so we have to get it done soon. lol

addy, would love to take a look at your project sometime when I am in Frederick which with our grandkids there is at least once a week. I have tons of giant and lime green hosta which I could trade if you are interested.

Is it OK to talk about a web site we found that may be of interest?
