If I ever have time to work on it, lol, have had to run to florida too much recently, aging parent in law issues........ but as soon as we button down things for winter will keep picking away at it.

finally home again!

Thanks all for the nice comments, sure is a lot of work..........but fun

This bog is going to be for carnivorous plants, like pitcher plants, fly traps etc. We have great acidic well water which they love.

geeze I'm retired on 3 acres and only have my little red lawnmower and cart and shovel .I must be doing something wrong here LOL .The house was built 6 years ago and I played GC and believe me will never do that again .I moved from NJ to VA as cheaper and weather was milder .yea sure more snow in last 2 years and colder too .I guess I brought NJ weather here ,jokes on me . Still like it here though .

I get the weidest dragon fly I have ever seen he is orange and green and blue .I love your ponds here can't imagine what size pump you have.Love the pics of it and it must have been a lot of work to do that WOW great job

oh by the way do you happen to use lava rock in your filters as I have been hearing a lot about it lately .

I have been using lava rock for 3 years only because I could not find anything better to way my filter box and lately thats all I've been hearing about .I learned the lava rock thing from my dad when I was little he used it to filter the water for his vegetable garden as we had a well and he pumped straight from the well for the garden and the water for the house went threw a filter .He did it that way for 25 years as he had an organic farm back when organic was not the in thing because that was back in the 60's 70's and 80's .He sold the place in 1986 in Franklin Township NJ

Nah, no lava rock, my filter is a very big bog made with pea gravel.

I like lava rock as it works great for me .I have not tried the bog filter idea as I only recently learned about it .Lava rock is a something I learned from my father but have only recently saw it on some of the sites I have been looking at .I just never thought of looking on the puter for info on ponds .Now I cannot believe some of the stuff I have learned

I've been using lava rocks since I built this in sept and put floor pads on top with floating plants ontop.
and also the lava rocks are cheap if you buy the landscapeing type in the 25 pound bags at lowes, keep them in meash bags so you can pull them to rinse every once in awhile

I soak mine in salt and liquid barley for a couple of days and I get laundry bags from the dollar store as they work good for a while then I just put them in a new bag .I also before I get ready to change I put some new ones soaking take the old ones out put the new ones in and rinse the old ones and then put them to soak in the same tub I took the new ones out of .I also get them from lowes 3.38 a bag and when they look shabby I just throw them in my garden ,makes a great mulch for flowers not edibles though .You dig a mean hole and neat as a pin too including view from splendors gate that is the pond by the side of the front porch with the yellow pots to keep deer away.I caught them drinking from the pond

this is my retirement house lots cost 5 thousand because they are view lots bought 3 1 acre lots house was 90 thousand to build and landscape well and septic 2500 sq. ft I got too play gc 6 years ago

Thanks marla, all because my honey bought me a tractor and I hated mowing that hill. lol

the bog is starting to fill in also and just got a box of plants to add to it.

Things are starting to green up here. Tulips blooming like crazy, lilies beginning to grow.

Very nice addy, Where did you plant the Lotus?

they are in the small ponds.

good thing my husband has never bought me one or my ponds would have been deeper and bigger...digging by hand makes me quit earlier :yikesu:

geez can't even put in a plant without a digging bar, let alone dig a pond. Our dirt sucks, shale with a little dirt. Digging by hand is not possible here.
