Wow what a project! I've been catching up on link clicking today and enjoyed viewing your pond/steam build. It is way too cool

I have come to the conclusion that – for a lot of us a pond is not a project ----- it is a career!
Difference – we pay to work instead of being paid to work:scratchchin:
Just thankful that I am still able!!!

Not sure what this one is, it is evolving from the water bug I saw in the pond all summer. The skin of the water bug is to the left of the land bug.

Thanks

That is what I was thinking, but why would it be hatching right when it is getting ready to freeze here, unless our weather has confused the poor thing.

I reworked my stream the 14th & 15th of this month, had lots of dragonfly larva. Put them in the bog pond. Love the dragonflies in the yard.

So do I, just didn't think they would be evolving now that we are having freeze warnings, but we have been warmer than normal.

Reading on the net about them, says they are one of the most imperiled species in north america.

So next job, make my streams, bogs, ponds dragonfly friendly! I have always loved seeing them around water. And they eat mosquito larvae yeah!

PS: addy1, wow, what a project on a pond you have worked on...looking good so far . Hmm...Langley Pond in South Carolina is in the gueniss book of world records; perhaps yours may be the runner up to Langley Pond...by the time you're done with your construction in Summer 2011.

LMAO I don't think so! That looks larger than our entire property.

Nice shots of dragonflies, we had visitors this year, but did not have the pond set up to attract them. Hopefully next summer with the growing bog and pond plants more will come.

Right now it is one big empty pond that is the exclusive property of one maryland green frog. Each little pond has a green frog in it also. They are territorial...........lol don't share well.

As soon as it is warm enough next spring we will plumb, wire up and get going the exterior pump and get the stream and waterfall running. We are just shutting things down for the winter here, i.e. turn off our low flow submersible once we start seeing ice.

Ponderpaul, it is a lifetime project that keeps us young! Sure couldn't afford to pay someone to do this for me!

Yes it is! We had lots of dragonflies in late summer, several different kinds. We had a red one (rusty red body, bright red tail), only saw it a few times all on the same day. They do come in beautiful color combos.

carnivorous bog to be

bog to be...............it will be peat moss, no connection to the stream or pond.
300 gallon rubber maid stock tank a little overkill, but it works.
The new deck will be above the start of the stream, we will have stairs between the bog and the stream.
DSC00693.jpg

It is next to beginning of the stream.

The bird feeder will be moved, too much seed falling near the stream. Also the last bad storm, almost blew it over, so more concrete bigger pole. Have it tied up right now.

What is neat is we can see the fish in the pond from the house because of our slope. Well the two little fishes we have!
