Well she looked like she was frozen in one spot for awhile

Yes that was right after she laid it. She stayed still for a little while, eventually she stood up and looked at it but was blocking the view from the camera, and now she's laying down. If there is an egg #3 it will probably happen in 3 more days.

Caught them! Doing the swap, the new one always adjusts the nest material

Well maybe this isn't nature just yet, but it will be.

I tried out a wet paper towel method of starting seeds that I read about online. Its one of those things where even though you read that it works, you don't expect your results to be so successful. Turns out, the coneflowers I tried it out on have started growing! What you see is their roots popping out of the seed shell. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep them in the paper towel, but I'll keep an eye out and soon they'll be put in potting soil.
Now that I see it worked so well, I'm doing the same for my other seeds.

The wildlife around here has been pretty scarce this winter, due to a fracking operation about 1 1/2 miles away from our house.
The CEO of the company came around last week and informed us that their operations have completed, so it's just going to be a well-head with occasional maintenance workers from now on.
He also gave us a $100 gift certificate to our local Water Valley Saloon.

- so I expect to see wildlife returning soon. The dogs were barking quite a bit last night, so I think the deer are starting to come back first.

Nice of them to let you know, hope peace returns to your area. I would miss our wildlife, which is nothing like yours.

@JBtheExplorer yep that trick works well for pretty much any seeds. I used to do it for corn seeds every year when I had a veggie garden. Some seeds are so small and delicate tho that it's hard to manage them. Tweezers might help.

We have a young deer laying between the fence and the pickup sitting in the back yard.
We watched it walk over and bed down. Trying to find escape from the snow.

It wasn't too bad. Oil and gas pays the bills mostly here in Canada after all.

With our mild winter, I was able to get out for a 1 or 2 mile hike most days with the dogs into our forest without worrying about coming across any deer or moose that the dogs might go after. Moose can be dangerous and try stomping you if you get too close, and the deer just run...after which the dogs feel like they just have to chase after...

I didn't see any prints of predators (cougars) on our hikes either this winter, so I felt much safer. I imaging they'll be returning soon as well.

I would be nervous walking in the woods with animals like moose or bears or mountain lions around, especially if I had a dog. The only animal I fear around here is people.

With the dogs, I am nervous. By myself, not so much.
The dogs are always looking for something fun and exciting, so most other times I have them on a leash. This winter has been different with the fracking.
Bears are hibernating right now.
Our county finally supplied us with bear proof garbage containers, so that helps.
