The closest I've been to a coyote is about 50 feet... I was out jogging, happened to look across the street by the forest preserve, and there he was, right at the edge of the trees near the road. And this was in noon daylight. It's a semi-busy road, so there were cars and other people around, but wow, what an eye-opener seeing one in a heavily-populated/built-up area.

@teeemkay somehow they seem to manage to find food even in the populated areas. I have heard of them attacking people but not often. I'm not taking any chances so I will be on guard w/my trusty backpack flinging. This is near the same area where I saw the bear prints in the snow and where a bobcat ran in front of me a few yrs ago. It's right near a deep tree filled ravine. Neat to see them but not be there mid-day snack

Haven't heard of them attacking any people around here, but they definitely do go after other dogs or outdoor pets.

Oh yes, we see them all the time when we visit AZ. My favorite story about that was the year we were out there for Thanksgiving...and the next day was garbage pickup, so you know allllll those turkey carcasses were sitting in garbage bins outside. Later that night it sounded like the coyotes were having a party all around the neighborhood--they must have been raiding the garbage cans.

Think this video was on here before but here it is again. I wonder if someone wasn't feeding this animal to make it so unafraid of people.

Sad news from the eagle nest. Don't worry, the parents and 3 eggs are still healthy. Unfortunately, of the three eggs hatched last year, only one still remained alive in the wild, and it's been announced that it has died from electrocution. There is still one alive from last year, but it was injured so badly that, while its doing good now, it will never return to the wild.

That's eagle #4 from this nest that has died that way. They land on utility poles and sadly there is little that people are doing to make it safe.

The poor birds don't stand much of a chance if someone doesn't try to correct the problem. What could they do?

The wires would need to be spaced further apart so the wings won't touch two wires at the same time. I was watching eagles from my daughters living room window last weekend. They have kept some of the dams on the Wisconsin River opened further this year so there is alot of open water for them to hunt.

One solution I've seen is putting a perch above the top of the utility poles, so they only land on that.
