Thanks JB and maybe we can watch 3 little ones grow to fly away

I've always wanted to watch that long but by the end of April I tend to get back into ponding and gardening and hiking stuff and always start to forget about them. I've yet to see them get big and fly, but would love to see it one of these years, maybe this will be the year!

I also just read that tomorrow should be the day for egg #2 and expect it between 4:55pm and 11:13pm central time, based on previous egg times. Of course, nature hardly cares about past egg laying schedules

Hey maybe your snow will last that long and you can just stay inside and watch. Wouldn't that be nice?

I see the eagle sitting on her nest but can't see if she laid anymore eggs. No snow on her nest today.

My hubby was bringing in wood from the open front wood shed and he disturbed a bat that was in the pile. Poor thing ended up on the ground mad w/his wings flailed out and squeaking at him. The bat wasn't hurt just mad. He used thick leather gloves to pick it up and put it in the other wood shed w/ slats on it that will let the bat go out if it wants. I looked up on the net and says they could be hibernating and not to disturb them as any disturbance takes away maybe 3 wks of the energy they need to survive till Spring. Sometimes that is enough to kill them cuz they need all their energy they built up to last. Could not be helped tho. He had to help the thing off the ground to a safe spot away from cats. Hope it survives. Our temps are pretty warm here if that helps. I hope it makes it.

Hopefully it'll survive. Might be ok since your winters are not as bad as they are in other places. Where I camped in 2013 they had a sign in front of a cave saying not to enter between october and may, I think. For the same reason. I didn't read the sign until I exited the cave. Oops. It was mid October, but the only bat that was in it never moved, so I think it was ok. Sure was a great experience though. First time I've ever seen a cave. It was a small one but still great to see. The bat made it so worth it! The hundreds of large spiders on the other hand... freaked me out. I can handle spiders but that many large ones was a bit much. There is a bigger cave a couple mile hike from there but after I read the sign I decided to skip it.

Neat you got to see the bat cave. Where we put the bat in the other shed it will not be disturbed as we are getting the wood from the other shed. Will be nice and sunny here today and the next several days so hope it will be ok. It might even decide to come out of hibernation early as we've had a really mild winter. Maybe that depends on when the bugs are flying too tho so it would have food to eat. Wonder if they just eat bugs that fly?

When she is just sitting there how can you tell when she is laying an egg? Does she get up right after and look under her?

She might be starting to lay RIGHT NOW!

You'll be able to tell when she is laying an egg, she wont just lay there, there will be a little movement, she will chirp lightly, and be a little hunched or sitting oddly.

EDIT: she is laying now! its coming!

Well she looked like she was frozen in one spot for awhile and then she moved back and forth and now she is just laying there again.Guess I missed it cuz I was loading the site up on my netbook and it took too long doing it. Good tho she has another one.
