Addy, I looked at the pictures of what you are doing. It looks really nice. It's amazing one day you are showing pictures of your lilies and the next minute you have your yard dug up with new components to your pond system. I hope you are going to be able to connect it so when you go away you don't have to worry so much about breaks in the system and water spilling out. I'm sure you have thought about that already.I am looking forward to seeing how this ends up. You always have great ideas.

lol Keith, it was not planned, no clue two weeks ago I was ever going to move the land bog that was in the 1k tank, or install a propane tank. Things just suddenly happened and it all flowed. But what a busy few weeks, I am tired and my hands hurt.

This one will be a feed off the big pump before it goes into the bog, 2 inch line with a ball valve. On the big pond side of the 1k tank I will be putting in a wier, piping, something to have the water from the 1k tank, waterfall into the big pond. It will not be a touchy set up like the small ponds, so can stay running when we are gone. Right now it has all the lilies except the tropicals in it sitting on the bottom. No water flow or fish until spring. I will change the piping if it is not too cold when we pull the pump for the winter, or next spring before pond start up.

Hey, Addy, can you please post the two threads you refer to about your new pond or build thread? I know I'm following your original thread, but sure can't find the new pond one. Thanks!

The new 1k pond is posted about in my construction thread. I have not updated, was too busy to take pictures today..........

Addy, i think the thing I like the most is when you have an idea you just do it. For me it takes months or years of convincing the other half that it is a good idea! This weekend we planned an ecotourism trip for this winter. Used up all our frequent flier miles to book it, but hopefully it will be worth it. It's pretty exciting. I have never done one before.

Colleen, Thats pretty funny that being so far inland we would be affected, but I guess we are feeling affects already and the lake is kicking up a lot with very high waves expected. There are 42 mile per hours winds on the Michigan side of the lake now. I talked to someone earlier today that lives close to the lake and he wasn't going to park his car in his building basement because he was worried about it being flooded by water going over Lake Shore Drive. We haven't received any rain at all yet. One of our daughters lives in DC and she said it hasn't been bad there at all. According to her I guess everyone there was worried that the bars might close if things got bad! I remember a few years ago going to a Cubs game and seeing the black clouds from Katrina swirling over the ballpark. it didn't rain but was really weird. When you see remnants of hurricane weather in the Midwest it always strange looking. Addy, I hope you have one of those back up generators!

They say what's left of the storm is going to come up to "batter" parts Canada Monday evening . We will have to wait and see. Things look bad in NJ and some parts of NY, some city called "Tolaken?" In New Jersey supposed to be half under water, I heard on CNN.

I think that is where the wild ponies are. They were shipwrecked there 200 years ago and have survived generations later. I saw a picture someone took today with a shark swimming in the street!

That would be strange! How will the "shark get off the streets" and back to the ocean after the tide goes down, hopefully it swims out quick and does not get lost!! Tomorrow will bring a new dawn and hopefully things won't be too bad, they will have to work hard to get everything back "up and running"! Hope the wild ponies make out OK too!

from the net......... never heard of it either sounds neat though

Ecotourism is a form of tourism involving visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, intended as a low-impact and often small scale alternative to standard commercial (mass) tourism. Its purpose may be to educate the traveller, to provide funds for ecological conservation, to directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities, or to foster respect for different cultures and for human rights. Since the 1980s ecotourism has been considered a critical endeavour by environmentalists, so that future generations may experience destinations relatively untouched by human intervention.[sup][1][/sup] Several university programs use this description as the working definition of ecotourism.[sup][2][/sup]
Generally, ecotourism focuses on socially responsible travel, personal growth, and environmental sustainability. Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. Ecotourism is intended to offer tourists insight into the impact of human beings on the environment, and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats.
Responsible ecotourism includes programs that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, an integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities for local communities.[sup][3][/sup] For these reasons, ecotourism often appeals to advocates of environmental and social responsibility.

Thanks addy, It is pretty exciting. CE I think people like the idea of visiting natural areas but the ecotourist theme has taken off in more recent years so hence the nomenclature. The idea is that your lodging is simpler with more natural materials and you respect the environment and give back to the community with products and services that you use. We will be staying in a rain forest and half the time will be within walking distance of an active volcano. Our youngest daughter will be home for winter break so it will be the three of us going on it. We are hoping to do a lot of hiking, rafting, canoeing etc. so it should be a lot of fun.
