Capewind, great pics of your pond. I found the MIA fish, the large female comet, when I was cleaning leaves out of my pond. She was floating under a bunch of oxygenators. At least that solved the mystery of where she went. Everybody else is doing fine. Burrrrrr.......... it's been cold here. Went into the 30's last night. My yellow finches in the cedars next to the pond are really busy. I have been seeing them a lot lately.

Temps here have been dropping and then rising but overall is below normal for this time of the year. I am only feeding wheat germ food every other day or so when the air temp is at least in the low 60's. Also I am netting out leaves every day. I decided not to buy the net that I was thinking about. All the fish look good including the babies. I haven't seen any frogs in about a month now.

Your weather is usually cooler up in Chi Town then me in South Central IL, Keith, but I think this morning you may be warmer! My sisters in Milwaukee WI (just N of you) are at 58, and I'm at 55! Beautifully warm morning. My ponds are at 57. Rain coming, though.
Frog jumped in again this morning into the koi pond before I saw it, but was feeding the bullfrog in the goldfish pond couple of days ago. Love catching the grasshoppers and tossing them in. They have a fighting chance to jump back out, as they can get on the lilies. But, usually he gets them. Watched him swim under the lilies and come up within 4" of where the grasshopper jumped to. It jumped to the side wall. Frog swam under water again, this time coming up and out of the water on the edge to nab the grasshopper! Really cool show! Sometimes the frogs stare at me when I toss one in, and I think they didn't see it ... but then they make their move. Fun to watch. Here one is I took pic of on Sunday.

It's total fun, Fishy! I toss the grasshopper on the lily pads. I never pull a leg off or anything. It's fair game. They get away about 50% of the time, I just catch another one. LOL But, watching the stealthiness of the frog is great fun. My frogs know when they see me, there may be treats heading their way, so they usually wait for it. I have had as many as 10 bullfrogs in the koi pond at one time. That's hilarious, watching them all go after the same grasshopper! You snooze, you lose!

Pond Looks really quite nice Capewind!

Well Keith, sometimes when you got lots of fish, some are just "weaker" than others, and sometimes they just die because of that. Don't take it too hard, you do a great job, I think it's safe to say" we all have had fish that just expire" for many reasons from time to time! :)

Thanks Colleen. I think because she was chased so much her resistance must have been lowered because she was always tired. It seems that generally my male fish do better in the long run but I was pretty happy I had a good group of females this year and it was pretty evenly balanced. It's supposed to hit 70 here tomorrow afternoon so hopefully we are a long way off from snow!

Walked out to my ponds after work, frogs jumping in everywhere in the goldfish pond. Very warm today, close to 80, same for the next 3 days, then BAM, back down to 50's. :grumble:

CE, it was like 70 tonight. I didn't want to go inside, but the Bear game is calling me! First two pics are from the Light up the Night walk fundraiser for Lymphoma and Leukemia. My wife got to hold a white balloon as a survivor. It makes you appreciate things when you see how people show up and remember loved ones who were stricken with these horrible diseases, especially children. The next ones are some fall pics of the the pond.

Oooh ... pretty babies, Comet!!! Love the fish pics.
Congrats to your wife being a survivor! I would fit into that category as well. Life is good!!! And, yes, it's wonderful how many people are appreciative that they have never had cancer or leukemia, and hale to the kids who have beat that dreadful disease! They are real heroes to me!

We had a few killer frosts, but the plants keep growing and blooming, land and water plants.
