Uh oh ... did I hear child support spoken in this thread?! Haha that's my job at work! Yep, I agree with JW and Addy, you caused the mingling of those boys and girls, so you will have to cough up the money to take care of them.   Maybe next year you won't have as many babies survive, since you will have more adults to fight for the eggs and fry!

oh no........, I paid for college and everything else for our first two kids because their dad split 20 years ago when my wife and I got married. Now I have to do it all over again but this time for a bunch of comets? Since when is what some fish does with a bunch of bumps on his gills my responsibility?? I guess I better start saving up for their fish school. lol.... Naturally I'll want the best for them, like swim school, I always thought they knew how to swim by themselves but it looks like this is a big thing now to teach swimming at a goldfish swim school: http://goldfishswims...-and-core-focus, and it looks like I'll have to start saving for a proper fish school after that. http://www.fish-school.com/

Keith your going to have to provide proper "housing" for all those fishy while they "school" and that might mean another pond! Ha ha ha, get that shovel out, start digging or school them "abroad" in someone else's pond!!
You know what they say about overcrowed schools.... bad all around! :)

Oh my this thread is a hoot!!! Loved the video and have seen where fish get "trained". Aren't you going to buy that book to learn all about training your comets? Yes, of course you are, cause you're "Comet Keith" and we will then demand that you post a video, and you never know, maybe YOU will be in the Guiness Book of World Records with your comets performing more tricks that the other dude.
Wait, I'm pretty sure this forum is to enjoy our fish, not be so demanding of them, although teaching them a trick or two would be pretty cool! Hmm ... will have to think on that one. I don't even have any that will eat out of my hand, mostly because I don't want them coming to the edge for food, but know that others have that "trick" mastered. What other things do your fish do, ponders? I'll just bet there are people out there that have taught their fish to do things. The only thing my fish do is follow me around the pond. LOL Pretty sure that's just "normal" fish behavior.

Hmmm... does it count as a trick if I say our fish have trained ME to look to make sure they arent looking before I dart around the main pond to the other one? If they see me, they wait at the waterfall (connects to the other pond) which relates to plant damage???

That's funny, Capewind! I used to sneak in and out of my son's room when he was a baby, try to get out of there before he noticed I was in there and cry. Reminds me of that. So, yes, that qualifies ... fish have you trained very well! Sounds like you need to toss a handful of food THEN go to the other pond, give them something else to occupy their bellies and then they won't damage your plants.

Feeding them first didnt work, if anything, made it worse... I swear they would eat til they burst, and still want more. I have a watercress plant potted on a shelf at/under the waterfall and if they know we went that way, absolutely trash it. It sounds silly but I am proud of that plant. I rooted it from clippings from the produce department of the grocery store LOL.

Haha maybe you need to move the watercress plant to a different location, or change your direction when going to your other pond. Fish have you figured out, maybe you need to change your game plan. :)

If no one is out there, they leave it alone. The two ponds wrap around the end of the house. As soon as you open the sliding glass door to go out, they are right there. The ponds and patio are 4-5' above the backyard. This is a crappy (older) pic, but will give you an idea of the set up. You can see the slider in the upper right of the pic... and the filter to the left feeds into the 2nd pond. The water fall is at the lower left corner, at the end of the bed that seperates the two ponds, just out of view... they hover right there STALKING LOL...

Pretty pond set up, Capewind! I'd love to see more pics. Do you have a thread showcasing your pond anywhere? Let me know, and I'd love to look at more pics. I also have 2 ponds, one I delegate to the koi, the other to the goldfish. Stream in between them, but the koi pond does not flow into the stream, except for overflow reasons in heavy rains. Otherwise they are separate waters.

Capewind, your pond looks great. I really like the way you landscaped around it. Everything fits in nicely and nothing is overcrowded. Do you have a view of your fish from one of the windows in the house?
