I'm quite a bit farther south than Keith, about 200 miles, and was gone when the first frost hit, so not sure what temp it was, although in southern IL there was ice on windshields. However, all my flowers are still blooming, and the marigolds I pulled out, leaving seed pods, have grown new plants, and they are ready to bloom. That will get wiped out when the temps plummet this coming weekend, I fear. But, if no frost, they still may bloom. My hyacinths got burned pretty bad on the edges, but they remain green, not near as nice as Keith's, though. Spotted 5 bullfrogs in the koi pond this morning, 2 went under in the goldfish pond, but didn't see them. Water is 61 this morning!

No killer frost here. We are close enough to Lake Michigan that it moderates temperatures within about 10 miles of it in the fall. I think the far western suburbs might have hit 32 once but i think the lowest it has been here is the high 30's. Tonight it was really warm. I think it was about 70. I was outside in just a t-shirt and it was very comfortable. It is supposed to hit 80 degrees tomorrow. My water lettuces are slowly falling apart so I pulled most of them out over the weekend. CE I have not seen my frogs in over a month and am really jealous that your are so active! The wh aren't doing great but still look nice and I have left them in. CE I'm glad to hear you are doing well. Last year was rough on us here but the discussions on gpf and friends I made here were a nice distraction and helped me through a difficult time. Speaking of which.....Colleen I wish your hubby well. Luckily things are back to normal for us now and that time seems like long ago.

Happy to hear you are all getting through the bad times and think it is just a test to see if we are strong or not .I have always hoped that bad times lead to good times .I guess I live and look through life with a coating of fairy dust in front of my eyes .

That's a great way to view life, Sissy! Very refreshing. I also look at thing in a positive mode. I feel smiling is much more healthy than frowning or being angry. I much prefer to laugh than growl. Just ask my friends! They wonder if I ever get mad. To tell you the truth, it's been a very long time since I have been mad at anyone or anything ... except DISH! LOL But even if I get angry, I never stay that way, leave it slide off of me and move forward in a positive direction again.

Great pma here. Is it the pond thing that makes everyone so upbeat? We can cultivate a new way of thinking: Pondamania, pondamonium, just pondering, the ponderers? Who needs ancient religious meditation or prayers when our ponds can do all that and more for us? Lets get some bumper stickers and spread the word!!!
CE, you are too funny re: t shirt. Well it was almost 80 today and still in the 70's tonight. I finally saw a frog today so they must have been just mellowing out while the temps were lower. Oh and I broke down and gave my fish real fish food today because it was so hot instead of that wheat germ stuff that they hate.

It is being out in nature, being busy, enjoying all the little things a pond brings, bugs, birds, frogs, fish, that keeps us happy and up beat! I am always happy outside, we hit 81 yesterday, temp now dropping slowly until we hit 48 on tuesday........and rain. The pond is back up to 60, the green frogs are sitting around the edges. Flowers blooming like spring.

Fish eating like pigs. I am filling the new pond addition with water today, making sure I didn't make a hole in it while digging it out. Then it gets dirt around it, next spring fish, this fall a place for lilies to over winter. In my construction thread if anybody has interest in seeing the changes. Cranking to get things done before it rains starting saturday.

Totally agree! Ponds keep us happy, and even allows us to spread our happiness to others. People say I'm "addicted" to my ponds, or is that me saying that?! Yes, in a way I am addicted to the pleasure it gives me for free. Saw little frogs yesterday, the peeper types, hadn't seen any of them for over a month. They will go back into hiding tonight, as temps are supposed to only get to the 50's tomorrow and for the next several days. Looks like 30's for lows, too. Yuck! But, sealed the gutter where it was leaking ... at least I hope it worked, used the black goop this time ... so I'm ready for any rains that come along with the cooler temps.
Addy, I am following several of your threads, but if you have a new construction thread, I'm not on it yet. Can you post the thread here? I'd love to see your new pond you're getting ready to add water to! Woohoo, go Addy!!!

Me too on pond happy and outdoor crazy! Sure glad we have all the beauty of the plants, trees, critters, water and just everything. If I couldn't go outdoors it would make me very sad and if I couldn't even look out a window to see it all that would be even worse. Wouldn't if when we all get old and gray and can't move we could at least look out into a pond full of blooming lilies and swimming fish? All the old folks homes should have one and I bet the health and moods of the residents would be so very much improved :blueflower:
Hey if you go to addy's cameras you can watch her in real life building her new pond. She's filling it up right now w/ a hose

Hi addy

lol took hours too! I moved plants, groomed the bog, clipped dead stuff while waiting. Getting ready for Sandy in case she hits and causes snow! Will post pictures later............in my build thread or our new pond.

Our propane tank comes tomorrow, will spend the day covering it with stone dust and getting some of the dirt back where it belongs.................

Addy, I looked at the pictures of what you are doing. It looks really nice. It's amazing one day you are showing pictures of your lilies and the next minute you have your yard dug up with new components to your pond system. I hope you are going to be able to connect it so when you go away you don't have to worry so much about breaks in the system and water spilling out. I'm sure you have thought about that already.I am looking forward to seeing how this ends up. You always have great ideas.

Hey, Addy, can you please post the two threads you refer to about your new pond or build thread? I know I'm following your original thread, but sure can't find the new pond one. Thanks!
