Lots of nice pix Keith and the night time ones turned out great! You sure have nice clear water. How deep is it where the fish photo's were taken?

Thanks! The fish was over one of the shelves so it's probably only 8-10" deep at that spot. This is the first year we haven't been overrun with mosquitoes. In past years you have to run in as soon as it gets dark. This year I have been able to sit out later. You see the fish acting more natural at night. That aren't all begging for food like during the day!

Great photos, Keith! My fish see me even at night, they come swimming up and begging, that's the koi though. I agree, the goldfish are less likely to be starved. Koi are huge eaters, goldfish tend to have a couple pieces of food and then are satisfied and done. No wonder koi make more waste. LOL I've begun feeding less already. They got extra feedings last weekend when I had company, as everyone wanted to feed the fish. It was fun to watch them smile as they saw the fish eating, though.

I think that is the best part of a pond watching other people have fun watching and feeding the fish .It just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside .Really gives people something to talk about and brag oh she has the greatest pond and the fish were so much fun .Then on top they take home lots of pics of your pond and fish to friends and then the addiction begins    :goldfish: :goldfish: :goldfish: :goldfish:

I agree. it's fun to show off the pond. We are having company tonight so I will save a feeding for when we have visitors. CE I just started cutting back a little on food about a week ago. Also I am slowly removing floating plants because it's getting cool at night and I don't have to worry about the hot sun warming up the water too much. Thanks Colleen. They seem happy. I have lost only one of the babies since my population swelled from 12 to almost 40. Still deciding if i should add another filter for my second pump that is just running water because it looks like expanding the pond is not going to be in the cards for this fall. I saw one of the babies this morning a little sluggish on the bottom of one of the shelves. I did a small water change and will start doing that again, but I guess I should probably test the water too.

Wow, just discovered there are two frogs instead of one. The bigger one looks like a bullfrog. I can't tell on the smaller one.

I changed yesterday to feeding the Fall food. Nights are getting colder but daytime temps are staying in the mid to high 70's w/ plenty of sunshine.
Pretty pix Keith and yippee on the 2 frogs in your pond. I haven't seen my one frog in my big pond for awhile now but see the regular one each day in my bathtub pond. Also was watering out by the duckweed/Azolla container pond and noticed I have a small frog sitting on the top of the Azolla..............Azolla appears to be taking over the duckweed.

I have some Azolla I got for free from the landscape place I've bought pond plants from, and put some in the kiddie pool, although it's not doing that well, and some in each of the water pots, but most of it in the end of the goldfish bog that is not moving much, and no way it will make it to the other end to wash into the pond. Here's what it looks like. Hoping it may over winter and come back here next year!

I was able to get a decent shot of the large bluish Shubunkin I got from Pond Kid in March. Also a picture of the Shubie I got from Wal-Mart last winter and kept it inside in aquarium until pond water warmed up. I call the WM Shubie "Saddle" as it looks like it has a black saddle on. Bad pic, but think you can see it well enough to see the dark saddle on him/her.

Then, this is one of the 4 fantails I got from Wal-Mart that I've seen. Really liked the tri-color look, with red being the dominant color.

And, one of my spotted babies I think this one is from this year. Not long tail, but marked pretty. Spotted baby 2012.JPG

The container pond I have my Azolla in has a thick bottom later of peat moss mixed w/ steer manure compost and a bunch of plant muck and the Azolla and duckweed love it. The Azolla is winning tho. I should have kept them separate so I could have had a nice supply of both. Oh well, live and learn.

Love your beautiful fish pix CE. I think that little butt wiggler is so cute!

Well, JW, duckweed is so easy to find in ponds, you can get a fresh supply next year, or this fall on your walks maybe.
I can't put Miracle Gro in the Azolla in the bog, cause that goes into the pond. I could put it in the kiddie pool, though, although would have to dump most of the water. It's to the top full from all those rains we had the last 3 weeks. I heard that it likes the muck in the bottom of those kiddie pools, gather from dust and dirt and leaves, etc. throughout the year, so was hoping it would do well, but maybe it got too much fresh water and not enough muck. It still has some in there, but it's not multiplying like the stuff in the bog.

CE, great pics of your fish. You have some really pretty ones. I'm familiar with duckweed. I bought some a few years ago and my fish loved eating it, but don't know anything about Azolla. What is it's purpose? Do they eat that too? J.W. I saw another frog so I have at least three! I think one of them might be a green frog because it is a different shape.

Yep CE I can find duckweed here in a lot of places so no problem replenishing it. Azolla is harder to find and they use it quite a bit I've heard to feed Tilapia fish and poultry. Koi and goldfish will eat it too. Check this link out for more info on the Azolla plant: http://voices.yahoo....478.html?cat=32

Hey Keith hooray for your new froggie and while I was chopping and dividing some Hosta's by my duckweed/azolla container pond I scared a big frog out of the Hosta and he jumped into the pond. He was the biggest one I've seen here yet. I tried to catch him but he went under the water and I didn't want to disturb the floating plants so just left him be.
