you'll only need to cut one hole...for the size hose adapter you'll be using....a hole saw (for a drill) will do nicely.....also available at harborfreight or any hardware/ tool store.

We are using the 100 gal stock tank behind our waterfall. We were looking for something to attach to the tank itself. I was wondering how we could attach and/or cut the storage bin to secure to the tank.

IF YOU WERE TO CUT THE UPPER LIP OFF THE BIN. YOU COULD USE SOME STAINLESS STEEL SCREWS, NUTS, AND WASHERS. OR TWO 2" BULKHEADS FASTENED (SCREWED) TOGETHER THRU BOTH THE BIN AND TANK...SILICONE THE OUTER BACKSIDE OF THE BIN AND TANK TO SEAL IT UP GOOD.

Sorry was at work...my storage bin (thanks Koiguy!) tapers in the front so all I did was drill out for the hose/pvc pipe (I found out the hose I used was to small to get the water out of my dyi filter so had to do some changing in the back of my bin to a bigger hole) I just used a door knob drill bit for my pvc hole. koiguy knows what he's talking about! Good luck! and let it dry thoroughly before getting the silicone wet!

We did find something that I think is going to work temporarily for a weir. It feels kind of flimsy to me. My newest question is this.... when we are constructing the waterfall, how do you make sure the water is flowing down the flat stones? Do the flat rocks need to be at a slight downward angle? I've looked at so many pictures and really love how on some there is a solid sheet of water. Does the weir need to sit on the top rock or do we direct the water to that area? Once again, I appreciate any tips or words of advice thrown my way.

We also got the piece of liner we needed to put in the bog area. Husband is working on the plumbing aspects involved. Here are some pics of what we've accomplished today.

High temperature here today was only 31..... we actually worked some this morning with a few snow flakes falling. I still can't believe that we are trying to build a pond in the middle of winter, but boy am I anxious to see fish in it!

I picked up a really flat piece of rock, about 2 feet wide, gave it a downward tilt of around 1/4 inch. The water flowed over it very nicely.

Every rock in my water falls, streams etc are tipped, tip them down slightly, that will keep the water flowing the right direction.

This is before I trimmed the liner below the rock. I ran liner out under the rock in case the water did not flow correctly, also to path the water from the deck pond that might run below the rock into the stream pond.

PL what was it that you found to cut up and make that weir? It's looks as tho it will work good for you as it lays on that nice flat rock.

Addy, I bet your pond is so pretty when all of your flowers are blooming. Right now, we've kind of rolled up the extra liner and wedged it in between the waterfall base and the tank and the weir is sitting on the top rock. Hubby thinks he will have the remainder of the plumbing done tomorrow. It's so cold and the "Flexible PVC" is not so flexible right now. :>)

I used that grey expandable pond foam around my rocks and waterfall so that it wouldn't run back out from my rocks. I tilted my flat rocks just a tad forward too. I thought I had a pic of it loaded on here when I did it...as I had to go back the next day when it was dry to cut it into shape so it didn't show. It's pretty kewl stuff but sticky when you get it on your fingers if it's not dry! And expands threefold for sure!

I used the expandable foam during the build of my stream and stream waterfalls. Also the pl black roofing goop. Water loves to flow where you don't want it to. The foam keeps the water flowing over the rocks instead of behind the rocks. I would turn the water on walk the stream looking for problems then foam away.

It does squirt out, but then just pick it off, you can cut it with a knife, but the smooth edge looks less natural, by picking it, pulling it off you get a rough edge.

Like addy stated tilt the rock down, some of mine are tilted about an inch and i tried to level them left to right does not have to be perfect. I used some of the foam to fill in any cracks or gaps between the liner and the stones to keep water from going under the rock I wanted as much flowing over and not under or around. Once I turned on the water I would make adjustments with other smaller rocks to direct the waterflow in the direction that I wanted, for example on my waterfall rock b/c of how the water was flowing from the creek more water was going to one side so I used a small flat rock to divert the water toward the center. I still tweak it here and there every year.

When you think you have everything right, turn on the water on the weir, watch how it flows, and go from there. You will tweak several times to get the right effect, like everyone says, but that's what makes it unique to you! I had my waterfall dug, liner on, rocks in place just on the waterfall part, turned on the water and watched the flow. Figured I needed more height here or there, pulled it all out, added dirt or simply used rocks to divert the water so it would flow more in another direction. It's all great fun, actually, knowing that you "created" the waterfall! Sometimes our waterfalls are BETTER than those in nature.
Are you planning to leave all those rocks on the sides, I assume? They look really pretty now, but won't all but what are on the waterfall be underwater? It seems most say that if you have fish, especially koi, the waste and gunk that settles between the rocks may be a nightmare for you later on. OR, are you only putting them on the sides, and leaving the bottom free of rock, hoping most of the waste will settle down there, where you can clean it out? Just saying ... you may be getting into your pond and cleaning between those rocks every year. Guess if that happens, you can decide if you put the rocks back and if it's worth it for the effect you want to see. I loved the look, but I think most will agree that once the rocks are covered with a coating of algae, you won't see the pretty colors any longer, just green and/or black bumps. :)
Oh, and I love your weir! It looks very good, and solid, and should work well for you.
