Here is a pic of one of my three green frogs. They are friendlier than bullfrogs, and don't grow as large. In the morning when I drink my coffee by the pond they will sit a few feet away from me if I don't bother them. Also they will float in the water and are good swimmers. Sometimes I hear them make a clicking sound at night.

Maybe because there was a painted turtle that showed up, and he needed to keep an eye on the turtle. Never moved, until the koi came and started bumping the lilies he was on, then he jumped into the plants outside on the pond edge. Third pic is the turtle in the foreground, frog in the background.

He has good reason to be wary! A week ago I found the bones of a frog in my turtle pond. :grumble:

Ahhh what a great day today... It's my birthday and I found the first frog next to my pond!!!!!! Been wanting frogs and even bought tadpoles that ended up as my fish snacks instead :) I'm so excited. Got a really bad picture because my dog chased it to a little tiny hole.

My pond is a raised pond, do you think it'll be suitable for frogs? I have waterfall so there are rocks for it to climb up and I just make the little steps for it to climb to the pond too...hope that works. I hope it stick around!!!!

Can anyone identify my frog? Ahh, forget it, I can't even see any detail. Wll have to try get a better picture soon.

Frogs can jump pretty high, even the little ones. Can't see how big your frog is, Nepen, but congrats! Always exciting to have "wildlife" show up in our ponds. Keep watching, you will see it again, I would guess. And, if it got into your pond once, doesn't matter that you have a raised pond, it will get in again. Good luck!

yeah, if I could see it, I could probably ID it if its a type of frog in my state, or a related subspecies, but I cant find it in that photo.

Haha, yes it is very hard to find in that picture :) But if you see the white dot, that's the eye of the frog, or toad.

Anyway, my pond is almost 3 feet tall and I saw the frog jumped when trying to escape my dog and it couldnt get up to the side of the pond, so I put some wood plank and some bricks up as steps for it... this morning it's in my pond with the fish!!!!

Will it eat my little guppies? It's actullly hiding behind the waterfall, I'm sure there are tons of monquitos back there. I wish I have more frog since this year mosquito is 100 times more than last year (probably due to lots and lots of rain).

My co-worker got me some toad tadpole, tiny tiny one... I'm debating if I should put it in the pond (in a floating basket.. hoping the holes are small enough not to let the tadpole through) or whereelse.

my cat is out this morning.. hope he doesnt get the frog...

If the frog is pretty small, your guppies are probably fine. Any fry from the guppies are fair game, though. Toad taddies are fine, put them in the pond. Any that grow to toads, will climb out and be in your yard! Funny, how toads lay eggs in water, then turn to tadpoles, then to baby toads. Guess if they are 3' up, that might be quite a "jump" for them when them climb out.
Your cat will have to be fast to catch the frog, but my dogs and cats will catch them if they decide to wander outside of the pond. Again, that's nature, the way I look at it! Good luck with your little frog.

FWIW, toads will drown in a pond unless they have some way to crawl out of the water. Unlike frogs, they can't jump up from the water's surface. A sloped beach area or a board resting on the edge with one end floating in the water will prevent their untimely demise.

Good info, Haro, I didn't realize that. My ponds have pretty straight up and down edges with rocks, only maybe 4" jump, but never thought of that. Maybe that's why I never see any toad babies. You would think I would spot them on the lily pads when they go from tadpole to toad, but actually didn't even see any of the toad taddies this year either. Those silly mama toads shouldn't lay their eggs in the pond if their babies are not going to be able to crawl back out! I suspect she gets in there on a slanted rock, but the the babies would have to locate that same slanted rock.

I only have male guppies... but some how in the past I got female (by mistake) probably died after lay fry, and I saw three fry a month ago and now I saw just one which I think is a female but we will see :)

I don't see my frog/toad anymore... Wonder if it drown, if it couldn't find a place to climb out. The water fall rocks will be steps for the toad. I didn't see any egg or the little guy anywhere so I don't know where it went and why it went into my pond and not laid any egg. I hope it comes back.

I put my tiny toad tadpole in a small container with water grass and duckweed, a step better than a dog bath tub they came from :)

Found this one trying to camouflage himself under some algae in the bathtub pond and see its little offspring in the next photo.

I have a bunch of frogs that are living in the bog. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:57738]

They go jumping when I walk in the bog, appear to be all green frogs. I know there are some bullfrogs around, have not seen them. The bull frogs, jump the second you appear.

I don't know what frog laid eggs in the deck pond, two days ago, but I think it is a green frog, not the huge mass of eggs you get with bull frogs.
