Kero, is it possible that frogs are finding their way to your pond as well? I know you said the neighbor kids caught the first 4, but it's also possible that other frogs are finding your pond. I have no placed any frogs in my pond, but I live in the country, have a 1 acre or so farm pond not far from my house, on my 6 acres, and the frogs just started showing up. I also have 2 painted turtles, one larger, one smaller. They all have made my ponds their home. I'm sure they are eating some of my fry, but I have enough fish, they are welcome to the tiny babies, if necessary. It's all part of survival. I've never done anything with the frogs in winter. They hunker down, like the article says, and show back up in the spring. Good luck with your frogs! They are adorable, and I hope they stay and return to your pond in the spring.

CountryEscape, I don't see how. I live in the middle of a city. The nearest water is over a mile away (maybe two) and it's all city between here and there. Roads, cement and houses. The frogs are tiny, they definately look like babies.

Well, hopefully they will have enjoyed your pond so much they will figure out a place to hibernate until spring and then you will have lots of frogs next year! BTW, I have baby bullfrogs (or I think that's what they are) and never saw any tadpoles. Not sure if the taddys were hiding in the bog, or if the babies hopped here after they got legs. :) So, you don't HAVE to have tadpoles to acquire frogs. They seem to find water one way or another, although a couple of miles is a bit far, and lots of danger in between! Good luck to you.

Really great photo, Toups!
I have yet to see one of my bullfrogs go after a fish, much less eat one. As long as I never SEE it, they are welcome to stay. LOL The big boy, Grand Daddy Bullfrog, is still in the road ditch, growls at the dogs, has them scared of him. LOL He's not welcome to come to my pond at this point. Maybe my frogs have enough to eat with the grasshoppers, etc.

Thanks :)

None of my frogs have eaten any of my fish that I'm aware of. Guess mine are just fed enough as well, I see them chewing on bugs frequently and throw them some grasshoppers now and then as well.
