Ah yes, this last site is the one you gave me before. It's cheaper, and sounds more professionally made that the first site. This is the one that I will check into and do some calling to order mine, once I figure out how it will work with my new pond. Thanks again!

Whiskey, I just thought of my winds, and if it would even be remotely smart to have a water wheel on my pond, stream or waterfall area. I'm concerned that unless the waterwheel has a brake to keep it from being blown backwards (assuming that 20 mph winds could move it in whatever direction it wanted), I should not get one. Sometimes storms brew up during the day, start out calm, so I would hate to have to drive 25 miles to shut everything down, plus I would hate to have to keep turning the pumps on and off because of the silly wind.
What are your thoughts? I could put the waterwheel in the stream, and have it moving that way, but if high winds kick up, would it pick up the water and throw it if the wheel was running really fast? I'm just not that familiar with how they work so need some guidance in the wind category. Thanks!

If sunk [ 12" ] deep enough it would only turn as fast as the currant, even in gale force winds.[ In very high winds its best to stop wheel as water loss will happen due to wind.]
its the water speed that govens the turning of the wheel speed
so if you can adjust the flow into stream ie water from outlet of filter return then i cannot see why you could not have one
if flow too fast divert by inserting tee 1 to wheel with control valve [ball ] the other to waterfall or return to pond [feed or return ]

My initial plan was to have it on a hill, with the filter behind it, pumping to the waterwheel, and then to a small waterfall/stream on each side of the waterwheel. So, the amount of pressure would be low on the waterwheel, but I was afraid that the wind would counter act the water, and might even turn the water wheel the wrong way, backwards, thus making the water go where it's NOT supposed to go. And, I would turn it off if high winds were predicted, but what if a storm brews during the way unexpectedly, and I'm at work? I hate to worry about things like this, but better to worry now than worry later and have a disaster. Thanks for the pointers. I'll send an e-mail and see if I can get some ideas from the guy from the one website. Maybe he will settle my worries once and for all. :)

When we are out of town we set the stream to only come for an hour. We also have the hose that fills the pond turn on for 1/2 hour, it runs down the stream bed. This way if anything goes wrong with the stream and some drainage happens the hose will help do a refill.

Hi if your concerns of the wheel going backward.......there is a way to advert this......HOW i hear you say .......quite simple really.
Have the maker of the wheel, fit a tooth cog with a riding latch, to one side of the shalft, all the time the wheel going correctly the wheel will turn.
Should the wheel try to go the wrong way the riding latch drops and lock the wheel ......ta...da....
Only one problem, hope you like click er de click ......

Yes, I figured there would be some way to put a brake on it going the wrong way. I know they have them for windmills, so figured something could be worked out. Here's a design that the Waterwheel Place has that is interesting. I think I would not worry so much if it was somewhat "encased" like this one is. The water comes out the top tube and also at the bottom to have some "splash" at the bottom as well.

This place has all sizes of waterwheels. I sent an e-mail tonight, so I'm hoping he contacts me soon to give me some answers and ideas. We shall see!
Thanks again, Whiskey, for your help. Now, back to your build!!!
