We are on the boat, extended our stay by a week. They finally scheduled the pull out to fix leaking rudders. So now need to winter prep the boat since we will not have it in the warmer water and no running heaters. Remove fluids. Etc.

We use the oil heaters in the winter. No clue if we will have a cold or warm winter. The weather here is psycho.

So now making list of removal, shut down work.

Enjoy your nice time at the boat!

Our psycho hot weather was instantly over in one day! Went from 88f down to the 40's and highs of 50's. Now we are stuck in the usual mucky, cold, wet days of Washington. Better than smoke tho!

We all better pray for a warm winter, OUR reserves of heating oils and diesel are at record lows being 1/3 of where they need to be coming into winter. One things for sure there's no chance it will fix its self. Nor will it get any help from our leaders

Unless we hopefully get some new leaders that know what they are doing and can turn this whole mess around we are doomed!

I ordered a telescopic brush to twirl around string algae and I used it for the first time today. It has a 70 inch reach and works great , I love it!

One thing I'm discovering in our now fishless pond is string algae and these weird light gray clumps attached to it on the bottom of the pond. I wonder if previously the koi ate it, but now it grows freely? Anyway, this new brush is a big help in removing it and saves me from having to get in the pond.

The koi graze all day they don't give algae a chance to grow if a higher form such as string. slime algae they won't touch

Finally came home, walking the kids into the back yard and there goes mr heron!

Mrs Deer or who knows what knocked down one of the net supports, mr heron found the only access point and used it. We have been gone 3 weeks, who knows how may fish it inhaled. You can see the support tipped to the side.

The stalk, the snatch, the swallow, you can see the poor fishes tail hanging outside of its mouth. One of my decent sized ones. I think it got my biggest, real pretty bright orange with spots, gone.

The taking off when we and the kids scared it.

Oh well if not snakes herons, it flew back twice while I was fixing the net.

@addy1 Dang it! You can't seem to win. Hoping it did not get too many. Can you tell by your underwater cams?
No they were not in the right area.

Looking back as far as my recordings are saved, it has been by every day, spending hours hunting. I spent some time looking for heron access areas yesterday fixing all, the second area was a big tear in the 1000 gl pond net. Deer probably.

Sucker got one of my few remaining frogs. Poor frog dipped back into the water a lot of times so the heron could swallow it.

@addy1 well just hope you have the net all safe and secure now and he/she will get bored trying to get in there hopefully! Then there's the deer.........hmmmmm, not sure how to stop them from wrecking your net? I guess all you can do is keep a good lookout each day to check for damage.

Holy feathered fiend, Batman! Yeesh, as if you didn't have enough predators going after your critters... I hope this guy doesn't figure out a way to defeat your net again.

I've seen Japanese ponds with clothesline-type lines of cord strung over them and way out on all sides as a heron deterrent. The theory is that this prevents the herons from being able to take off in a hurry, and since they don't like to land if they have no escape route, they won't take the risk. Not sure that would work better than a net however, since they can still walk in (just can't take off if something startles them). It looks like this guy isn't deterred by much!

It spent hours here yesterday, finally flew off. Tried to find frogs in the fishless ponds, hope some are still around. I think all entry points are fixed now, will keep watching.

When it got the frog, it stuck its head through a 8 inch hole in the net. When trying to leave its head , ie feathers, were stuck in the net. I watched it try to get loose. Finally after wiggling this way that way it was loose. That hole is fixed now.

I have had them lift the net up with their heads and walk right in. Ignoring the net that is above them ie can't fly. Then they turn and walk out the same way. No fear.

Microsoft Flight Simulator had a big update today with a bunch of new free aircraft so I've been trying them all out.
