@GBBUDD this is Bussana Vecchia, gone there 1st week of september...
From wikipedia: Bussana Vecchia is a former ghost town in Liguria, Italy. Abandoned due to an earthquake in 1887, it was renovated and repopulated by an international community of artists in the early 1960s.
Bussana was founded in Roman times, and originally named Armedina or Armedana; it was only in the 7th century, however, that the first evidence of stable settlements appeared.

i have got to get my azz out there. I can hear the cobbles and walls talking to me seeing the history in every square inch . I'm from new England not far outside of boston and when i think of our measly 200 year history compaired to the 1,000's you folks have blows my mind.

BEAUTIFUL SHOTS. It always blows my mind how worn and torn building and items can be so appealing in a picture.

now i wonder if those are speed bumps made intentionaly or if there was a hall or a closet there at one point and the tore it down for the road to continue

GB; we HAVE history but the indigenous didn't make much that withstood the test of time, not with their lifestyle of moving and following the herds, etc. And roads were more like paths until the settlers came with something other than horses to ride and travel.

It made me wonder too re the speed bumps; kinda odd and I doubt the early Bussana Vecchia citizens needed to stop fast moving carts in their day! But the stone looks almost as old as the road, so...unless, they were for keeping a cart from drifting down the hill? Sort of like wedges for car wheels? Whatcha think? Dime? Do you have any suggestions for the purpose of the 'speed bumps'?

And I definitely think you and MrsHogmaster should take a road trip to Italy; I bet you'd end up with half a pond's worth cost in flash cards and drives for all your pics!

Nop, are just 2 steps to decrease slope of the climb, it's really steep, but cant catch into photo.

The wife is Sicilian she doesn't even consider her self Italian. And she would loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee it . even though her daughter went over there for exchange in college . Glad i wasn't there the house madam would lock the refrigerator after dinner . showering had a literal timer. i forget some of the crazy things she went through there . we Americans have no clue how lucky we have it yet these morons want to give up are rights and way's

Trust me speed bumps are needed ANYWHERE there's the possibility of speed. i Build dirt roads out in the woods controlled access for construction and we have rules no speeding yet throw a speed bump every now and then. i can see the need as those roads are so narrow and some farmer wants to get home to the family or is done working and was time to play with the GF. WHERE THERE IS YOUND MEN THERE IS SPEEDING . YES i am sterio typing and not AYWAYS TRUE but it sure as heck was with myself and all my buds.

Oh i know we have history thousands of years but so little is still around. When we build roads or structures any where near a stream or river if there is a flat area in the vicinity it was dug up by archeologists looking for relics. The only real finding that are found is arrow heads in the north east as pottery was less then quality and everything else was wood vines or leather. One funny story the archeologist was gigging and he found about 3 feet down a circle with flat rocks making about a 6 foot diameter. he was all excited saying this was an ancient fire ring. The most significant find he ever had. When i looked up and saw three homes all in a row all old and built in 1700's when i noticed all the fireplaces were in like with this fire ring. As he kept digging he un earthed a Brick in the middle of the circle. The indigenous did not have brick " red brick" and it really popped his bubble

Damn Sicily, gone there 2 times and i ate like a monster ahah...and sicilians are so sweet like people. Love that island.

Shut off the water fall today and trimmed back plants in floating planters and covered the pond with the pool solar cover. I've got the Pond Breather in the pond but not plugged it till it's colder. The bog and sand & gravel filter are both still running till weather gets too cold.

Ohio is like southern Michigan and we've had nights now below freezing, so yeah, temps are getting there, GB. And it's a lot easier to do a lot of this now than when it's barely above 30F.

I'm just finishing up my winter tent, too; agro plastic goes on tomorrow and I roll back the roof screen for the season. I forgot two years ago when I heard we were getting early November snow and it hit us hard to the tune of 11". Broke down a few screen panels (I'd sewn sections together) and forced me to get a whole new one the following spring. It's a single piece now.

So yeah, it's time!
