Even with waders need to wear something warm under and DON'T SLIP they fill up fast lol
I have no desire to actually get 'in' the pond, not even in the summer. When I set up my winter tent, because of the new dimensions of my expanded pond, I lay boards across for walking access. Unfortunately, this year, I forgot to hit the lilies BEFORE I set up the wood framework, which is only 4' high at it's apex, so that means I'm crawling around on my knees, working in a cramped position, under wood rafters. All while dragging around a kitty litter bag, extra pots, fertilizer, my hooked pole for grabbing lilies to far down to reach by hand, and a net (+garbage can) for scooping out floaters at the same time I'm grooming. The ONLY saving grace is spring is now prepped and when the water is even colder, I'm not IN IT!

So, easier and harder at the same time.

Today....................went to groom the 1000 gal pond lilies, just yanking leaves buds off. Then quit, the bees are drinking from it. I have found that without the plants they drown. The water is too clear, they see the bottom and think they can land on a plant.

I watched them try to land in the hot tub pond, I cleaned it well of floating plant leaves. The bees would touch the water thinking they can land, fly back up go to another place, land on plants that are not there. They see the plants below the water. Then they drown, they can not swim at all.

I put in a lot of floating items to help them find something to grab hold of. And maybe get out of the water.

So the other pond still has lily leaves, parrots feather etc on the surface. And it will stay until the bees are not flying anymore.

Who knows.................. with our flipping weather it can go up and down at any time. The bees fly all winter which causes us issues with keeping them from starving. We were 74f today, 32f in the am, yesterday 24 f in the am
