Yep same cold arctic air here. Schools delayed or closing due to the cold. Teachers say it is because some students just dont dress for the weather conditions. Either because parents aren't there to supervise what they wear, (gone to work etc) or just dont have the appropriate coats, boots, gloves etc for this kind of cold.
Wind has been fierce this afternoon and night. Ground blizzard conditions in some areas. Just bitter cold. Checked last night and only had a small 7" diam hole open in the pond from the bubbler. Hoping it hasn't frozen shut. Cant see the 1500 watt heater. :(

They kept children out of school yesterday and today .The schools here are not set up very well for cold weather .Heat pumps don't work as great once temps get this low .They can only pull in so much warm ambient air outside and then they go to reserve heat and that can raise your electric bill .I worked awhile down in the basement but you can only do so much and then you have to stop and clean up the saw dust .

Horrible weather again today. We did get the 2"-4" promised, and with blowing and drifting, some spots were more like 6". I'll probably have to clean up more drifts tomorrow. The wind is blowing pretty good out there. I was an icicle when I came back inside. Once again they're closing schools tomorrow since windchills could get below -35°f again. Thats typically the deciding temp around here when it comes to closing schools.

I see everybody is Freeeeeeezing tonight just like me!! Welcome to my cold world! Right now it is -13 Fahrenheit and getting colder still, It is so cold and the ponds have the one big 1500 watt heater plugged in and all pumps running well with the aide of the big heater. Without that heater my ponds would freeze up way too hard tonight, so happy for electricity, and so is little Rio in her nice warm potty spot!

That looks pretty frozen there Addy. How thick did the ice get last year,
Not really sure Colleen we were gone jan-march. When we got back it was already melting, around two inches thick.

One year it was 7 inches thick. I will measure it when we get home in the next few days.

We put in a ventless propane stove for our living area, it keeps it darn warm. I dug in a 500 gallon propane tank two summers ago, we used around 150 gallons over winter. Our heat pump sucks in the winter, blows tepid air, no real warmth. Until we installed the big tank we just used bbq tanks to fuel it.
Heat pumps don't work as great once temps get this low

Lesson learned last night. I've been fighting a bad cough and runny nose ... the type that soaks a large Puffs Plus each time you blow! ... for last couple of days. Went to Pharmacy on way home from work. They suggested Claritin or Zyrtec to dry my nose, and Sudafed for the congestion. (Had to sign my life away to get the Sudafed, lol) Took Claritin at 6 when chores were done, and by 7 I could tell nose was not nearly as bad, and things were drying up. Around 8 I had a terrible coughing fit, which tears up the throat, making it sooo sore. So, since I asked and was told I could take all my meds together (including Ambien), I took the Sudafed. Both Claritin and Sudafed are 12 hour type. I could tell the Sudafed was working within 15 minutes, and by hr later, almost no coughing, and was ready to sleep. Was resting on and off, so took the Ambien and got a better night's sleep. Woke at 4:30 with coughing and although I was few hours short of 12 hours, I went ahead and took both meds again. Woke to clear nose for the most part, and almost no coughing! Win win! I think I can make it through the day today.
Temps were are not going up much, since it shows 14 right now, and down to 7 tonight. Tomorrow they are promising sunshine and 25. That will feel like a heat wave, especially with light southerly winds. Sunday, calling for ICE and then wintry mix on Monday. NOT GOOD, so I will take advantage of tomorrow.

You poor thing! just rest now CE, rest is best if you don't have to work.

Early this morning temperature was minus 31 Celsius (-25 Fahrenheit) yuk!!

Little Rio slept on my tummy and was breathing and snoring in my ear. Sweet Baby needs me to keep her nice and warm... I love it when they need me!

get better ce and be careful you don't need to get worse .Bundle up and stop going outside with no coat just to do one tiny thing because that is how you get sick .Keep a hat on also .Clean all your surfaces inside to keep from getting it back after it is gone .My 1 sister is a nurse and 4 of my nieces are nurses and they make told me to make sure I wipe those shopping cart handles with the cleaner before i put my hands on them and if possible take a shopping cart from out side when it is cold .Bacteria does not thrive well in cold

It's up to 4°F today and sunny.

Two more days and we'll see 20's again! I'm hoping we don't see more snowfall for awhile. I need a little break from shovelling.
