Imagine my joy. I am chalking the first year up to a total learning experience and originally had planned on draining the pond in both the fall and spring so I'm really not too worried about it. I am wondering about cleaning the sides of the pond though, I've been reading today and it seems to be a mixed bag on cleaning versus leaving it. I am back to murky water and have been for a few weeks now. Not a big deal although I did find out I have a UV light in my pump, most likely burned out. So I'm going to replace that today and do the wait and see thang.

No cleaning done on my walls at all and no draining. If you are thinking that keeping your pond spotless is going to make the water clear, forget it. Your pond is brand new. The pond has to cycle and will go in and out of this green thing. Perhaps the uv deal will help. I don't have one so don't know. I find lots of good sucking plants really help keep mine clear. I still get cloudy green now and then but it clears up. Fish stir things up too in mine.

Yeah I'm not terribly worried about it, I have just been reading and there seems to be some difference of opinion on cleaning the sides, (I know a difference of opinion in ponding, *shock*gasp). The only reason I'm changing my UV light is out of curiosity and since I have to pull the pump tonight anyway.
I am hoping to have a lot more WH next year but figure it is too late in the season to invest in more. I'm also going to re-pot my rush into bigger pots and let it growwwww.

You have no fish, right T? Then plants will help keep your water clean, and moving water, but I think you are doing both and adding plants, too. For people with fish especially, don't clean the liner walls. That's beneficial stuff that is growing there, it helps keep the water clear. Cleaning the stuff off the bottom will help more than anything. And, like JW said, my koi get restless and squirm around on the bottom, stirring up the stuff down there, and make the water murky every now and then.
Also, UV lights typically are used more in the spring, with the green water, and killing the particles of algae in the water column. But, in Mississippi, maybe you have warm temps most of the year, and more likely to have the green water year round. Not so where I live in south-central IL. Good luck!

Leaves are turning golden yellow and brown very quickly now, even though the daytime tempertures are nice a warm, just like summer! I have started dragging out the leaf nets and have some up, but going to put them all up tomorrow cause I am off. Going to clean out those filters too, been so busy working extra hours at work these days, not sure why I am getting so many hours, they need to hire more people cause I am tired of working to death! At least I feel like I am getting into good shape and feel much stronger too these days, now that I beat that flu last week.
Glad to have tomorrow off, cause four days of rain coming stsrting Friday!

So sadly I found the culprit behind all my green water. I pulled my filter box since I was having water pressure issues. I assumed the box or the pump would be covered in algae and sadly what I found was the bones of a dead frog. :( He apparently got caught between the screen and the milk crate and died, all that was left were bones so I am assuming that's why my water has been green again. The water pressure was due to a bend in my hose going to the bog which I had covered with a rock. I am going to put pool noodles along the bottom of the milk crate to keep any more frogs from having the same fate. It was a sad day.
And yes CountryEscape, that's what I'm thinking. It gets so hot here in the summer that the water gets warm quickly. I don't mind the green though, the water is healthy and I don't need crystal clear water but it was really bad. I'm hoping that with Mr. Frog gone it will clear up a little again.

Cool and rainy. I've been checking water temperature diligently as it has dipped to 55F, the temperature below which I don't feed. Usually, that won't happen until October or so.

It's just early Fall around here right now. I haven't had to wear a jacket if going outside and I don't feel any nip in the air yet. Leaves not really coming down. But some leaves in the pond are starting to brown and die.

Fish do seem well fed so I'm not worried about them over the Winter. This year some of the fish have developed a very bad habit of only swimming around where I feed them. I hope those idiots get the message when I stop feeding and eat algae otherwise they're going to have a very disappointing 5 months.

We have officially hit fall here as well. 3 mornings in a row I've had to have a sweatshirt on, it's been in the upper 60's. The afternoon's are cooling down as well, we are hovering in the mid to high 80's. I only wish it would last longer.

I stay in flip flops and shorts until it hits the low 40's. Might put on a long sleeve shirt, love this cool weather.

Can't believe how beautiful everything is, dispite the yellow leaves, I still have some flowers blooming and weather is so darn nice these days, feels like summer is stll here! Outside right now in my bug free zone turned Haunted Halloween woman cave, drinking a glass of dark red wine, solar lights all glowing and some orange plug in lights brighting up the cobbled pond path. The night comes quicker these days, and the avenue is busy with the sound of cars speeding away in the night.
Cleaned out my pond filters and hooked up the proper hoses for the new larger pumps, seems the other hose was just a wee bit too small and was making the water flow more restricted, but since I hooked the larger hose today, flow is much nicer... hung all the nets up over the pond to stop leaves from falling in too.

Gorgeous morning. It was cool and quiet and the sky was an amazing pink color. Some days just remind me of how glorious it is to be alive.
