Forecast for today is 95. Last night was the first time this year that I have watered my yard. Its suppose to be hot all week with little chance of rain.

We had our storms yesterday morning as a nice cold front came through. Friday broke some temperature records for July 6th in this area. Right now it's a comfy 74* with the humidity index a reasonable 82*. Much better than the 97*F - H.I. of 104*F we had Friday.

Happy BD sissy :)

Its already 80 here and it's only 10am!! Watering the vine that shades house good. Got lots of trees out back that shade house good too. I shut all the windows and if I don't open windows or doors to much the heat won't get in! Was up late last night watching the lightning, was quite intense! Good thing that cell missed us cause it looked like hail, fire and brimstone for sure!

They are now saying we could get a pop up storm around 3 and still can't get used to these pop up storms here .I just hope it brings rain .Yesterday we had thunder but no rain and did not see the lightening or even a dark cloud .Sounded like jet planes going over ,but nothing but thunder the news was saying .They were warning people even though you don't see lightening does not mean it is not there .Shook the ground a couple of times and felt more like an earthquake .

There were a couple of pop up showers last night around me, but not at my house. Sunny this morning, in the 90's but not supposed to get above 93 or so ... COOL, compared to the 107 we had yesterday!!! But, the rain coming looks like no way it will get south far enough to get me, so I'm sure hoping it changes it's path and spins southward from MO. Darn, I sure hate to be a farmer right now, and I'm not, and have bought all the hay I will need until next summer, so I'm in really good shape, especially since I bought it before we got this drought! Sure feel back for the farmers, as it looks likely that the corn crop is going to net NOTHING. I've never seen it so dry so early, where the corn is supposed to be making ears, and with no rain, probably will be absolutely no kernels in those ears. This year is a good one to have all beans, as they are handling the heat and lack of rain just fine ... so far anyhow. Please God, some rain in the midwest .... PLEASE!!!!
Colleen, those succulents in hanging baskets and pots are really nice! I should do more of them. Only problem is that then I have to find a place to put them during cold months, and I really don't have good places in front of windows for things like that. I have a wide planter of all succulents on the deck. Went out and took this picture. Yukon had once pulled out 3 of the plants, before I was able to put the pot outside and I pushed them back into the ground. They are a little "chewed on" looking, but all in all, it's doing great on the deck in full sun.

Best part, and you're so right, is that they don't require much watering. I only water them about every 3 weeks, even with no rain. Do they need much fertlizer, or just water? I don't recall what was said about that. I bought these 7 little plants at a Garden Show in Chicago I went to in I think March. Actually planted them, had them on the deck in March, then brought back in for April, when it got to normal temps (freezing at night sometimes) and back out in the end of April.

Our high today is 84. We are loving this cool down. I was able to get some stuff done on the bog today and trim some of the pond plants. So glad we are getting a break from the triple digits finally. Our poor AC has been working over time lately. It seems like from when I would get home at 3, the ac would be running non stop until it was bed time at 10. That would be to just maintain the temp. I had the wife rearrange the livingroom upstairs where she does her daycare to open up the floor vents. We are supposed to be in the mid 80's all week with a chance of rain tomorrow. We need it so bad. The poor farmers are really hurting.

Well, darn it. It got hot today, in the mid 90's but better than the triple digits we have had the last couple of weeks. Saw the rain to the south of me, and then to the west, and got excited! It never got here, though. Looked on the radar, it it was very slow moving, pretty much stationary, and whoever it was over got a good downpour, as it was orange and red on radar. Heard that a place not 5 miles from me got 4" today!!! I got maybe 10 drops, and the rains are all out of the area as far as I can tell. Darn it! At least I have wells, plenty of water (as far as I know) and don't have any farm ground. I feel sooo bad for the farmers in the area, robbed of so much needed moisture once again. :-( Temps cooled off this evening, though, and was able to sit on the deck with a glass of wine ... or 2 .... and enjoy the ponds! Spotted babies in both the koi and goldfish ponds, and one of the babies in the koi pond is very different looking, mostly black in color with an orange head, something I've never seen with my goldfish babies before. I'm sure the goldies spawned before they were moved out of the koi pond, as I have seen 2 mostly white babies with black on tails, but this black one is questionable! We shall see .... Saw a teeny tiny baby fry in the goldfish pond this morning, too, plus a couple other larger babies, maybe 1" or little bigger. Woohoo!
