Pugle we had an extraordinarily long cold winter here in Illinois last winter, and I think yours was equally cold and long, right? I wondered how that would affect our spring/summer/fall, and it appears that everyone is having a much cooler than normal summer, I know we are where I live. I'm not complaining, I love the cooler temps, to be sure! Last weekend, it was 90 on Sat., 85 on Sunday, and now this whole week it's only getting up to low 80's or high 70's, and down to 50's at night. I love it! No AC being used, just open windows and fresh air. Can't beat that for the end of July! Humidity is way down, too, so it's perfect.
Been riding horses last two weekends, and enjoying that immensely once again. Hoping this cooler summer doesn't mean a freezing cold October! I just hope it warms up again in August ... not that I miss the 90's as I DON'T, but I sure want some normalcy. Also, we have had far too little rain, and the ground is very dry. I just wish I could get a good soaking rain of 1-2". The rains that come are hit and miss, and my property has been missed far more than hate since early June.
I too prefer cooler temps, but not the abnormally coll that we've had the last few weeks. You're up wind of me, so you must've been sending us your rain...lol. We did have a very harsh winter here to, with almost no spring. It was freezing one day, then BAM! straight into summer, albeit a cool one. We've had a few nights this month down to 8* (45*F). But one good thing came of the cooler than normal weather. We had a nice long toad chorus this year. It lasted several weeks... close to 4 weeks anyway. As I said above, no dormant grass this year. I think I doubled my lawn mower gas consumption so far...lol

Can't sleep, watching the pond :) always makes me smile. Feels like its 50f but I'm sure is warmer than that, it's dark and I can't see the temp gauge lol.
You know it's weird, I found these blooming behind my house today :)
And I didn't plant them, must have been a squirrel...

I love these things. 'twas a pleasant surprise !
The new couple that bought the house across the road. he was mowing grass the other day, and he mowed down about twenty or thirty that line the drive every year. They had just started popping up. MOWED THEM ALL DOWN!! Lol. I had to chuckle, but didnt have the heart to tell him what he just WACKED down lol. The lady who lived there before, she lived there for forty eight years, she was a lovely lady. And she was a meticulous gardener. Ahh well, they're newlyweds and young, my hubby has done that a time or two :) he's gotten better

Well it was darn hot yesterday, darn near 100 degrees!! Up now at 4 am in the wee hours of the morning, watering my front flower bed. Cooled off right now and down to only 66 degrees, old puppies are all excited and were out running at "Large" in the front yard with me a few moments ago, Puppies like the "middle of the night" cause that big hot yellow ball in the sky is gone for now till the sun rises.

Despite the extreme heat today, I was still able to work on my cobble out front yesterday morning after the puppy walk. I need more large flat rocks and must "scour the Earth" and find more large heavy pieces that are flat on at least one side.

This is what the front cobble is looking like right now. I did get fresh sand yesterday afternoon and pressed and swept it into the newly cobbled area. I just love my large cobble and my "rock fetish" continues in Canada!!

hot dry summer here and so far in almost 3 months we have only had two very light sprinkles that did not last for more than 5 or 10 minutes .The worst dry summer i have seen here in 8 years .Every one around us is getting rain but we get nothing .But at least so far this week it has been below 90 degrees with really cool nights .I at least hope this weather hangs on, but we need rain .Only thing keeping the trees going is the dew .The tree in my back yard I had to water it was dropping a lot of it's leaves .Neighbor down the road had his well go dry because he was watering every thing 2 times a day .They never learn .
