Sunny and think maybe it got up to 60f today. Took all my water lilies out of the kitty litter and cleaned them all off and put them in baskets w/a rock on top and put them back in the pond. Boy that old kitty litter stunk to high Heaven in those baskets before I redid them all. Water lilies sending up pads but no blooms yet.

I need to do that to my water lilly too, going to get to it this year for sure!
I love veggie subs to with feta cheese Sissy, they are so refreshing and I could live on cheese!

This morning we had heavy rain, followed by wet snow which melted as soon as it hit the ground. I woke back up and then the sun was out and it was sunny and warm again! Just happy the snow did not stay!

Hey speaking of weather, CE started this thread and where is she? Haven't heard from her in days and Sir John also.
Sorry, I was busy last weekend, new roof was being worked on. Got the back side torn off on Sat., and sheet metal put on then on Sunday. I didn't allow myself to sit and read about what my Pond Friends were doing, as I was busy digging the trench, and picking up pieces of shingles, nails, etc. and being the "go-fer" for the roofer! Here's what the back side looks like as of Sunday. Hoping the front will get done this Fri/Sat. I'm loving the burgandy color!!!

Ladies, are you replanting your lilies with no kitty litter, or adding fresh? I will be redoing my lilies soon, and just wondering. Thinking about taking some of the extra tubers and putting them in my farm pond. Wouldn't that be cool to have all sorts of colors of pond lilies blooming in my farm pond? Only problem is that the only ones that would notice them, would be the horses. LOL I guess they MAY be visible from the road, as long as I clear out any tall stuff that would grow in front of them. Just a thought ... I know they would really spread and take over an area, but if they are extras, what does it matter?! :)

OK, sorry for 3 posts in a row, trying to catch up somewhat on this thread. Once the frost gets out of the ground for you Canadians, it's fast track for the plants coming back to life. Colleen, you already have stuff growing in your ponds, and I know exactly what you mean, Addy, about the rain swelling seeds and stuff sprouting. The 5+" of rain I got in 2.5 days last week did wonders for greening up the grass. Soon will need to be mowing, so I'm happy for the cool nights yet. Perfect spring weather, if you ask me. Almost everything has sprouted and come to life. Very few things left to sprout - wisteria, hibiscus (that's always the last things to come back to life), butterfly bushes. Just noticed the Obedient Plants are coming back to life, or at least I think that's what they are! Asiatic lilies are sprouting, too. Crocuses I planted last fall are blooming, and the daffodils are blooming, too. I'll take a couple pics tomorrow. You northerners will be right behind me, and those to the south are Wayyyy ahead!

Dudes it must have gotten over 70f here today. Says 68 right now. I spent the day cleaning the pond and filter and making a screen for the top of my waterfall filter to keep the little plastic bottle caps from jumping out into the pond. Man it was warm here..............yahoo......................mountain dew
Plastic bottle caps???? Do you use that for biomedia????

A warm 73 degrees today but very windy so not as nice with the wind. Had to net a few more leaves that were stuck to sides of the pond.
Close to 70 for the next few days but next week looks cooler. We need the rain here maybe some on Sat. hopefully dry during the day so I can get some work done on the pond.

I am doing kitty litter on most, I noticed a real difference in the tuber and root growth between the litter ones and the floating free ones. The litter ones "appeared" to bloom more last year, but no hard data to support that. I am going to do most in litter, try a few free see what happens, same variety same size of tuber etc to have a comparison.
Set them free CE in your farm pond, bet they would be beautiful

70 today

Yep I'm giving those bottle caps a try. They fit the bill to use as biomedia and they are free and all over the roads so I pick them up when walking, clean then and will toss them in when I get it all set up and ready to go.

CE your roof looks great! Glad to see you back.
Sun for today they say but filtered by clouds at the moment.
Still cleaning the batting out off and on under the falls.
I'm doing a trial on my water lilies setting them in my black plastic square baskets w/ holes and putting rocks on them to hold them in place. We'll see how they grow. If not so good then guess they will have to go back in the kitty litter next year. Might need to give them 2yrs tho to do the trial as they might be in a bit of a shock after transplanting this way.

Do you fertilize your lilies addy when they are in kitty litter.

I put osmocote or some sort of granular fertilizer under the kitty litter. Then every now and then stick in a fert tab, very seldom actually. They do well with the fertilizer under the litter

70 here, beautiful
