Today wind chills as low as -25F . Occasional snow showers with a high of
-1F. Pond is starting to freeze over and Sunday pretty much the same cold weather as today. Monday we will start to warm up some high of 19F, as the week goes on the temps will get a little warmer each day.

Be careful driving, addy. It's not worth it to push it.
:)

We have gotten smarter, lol. Now make it a two day drive rather than a 15.5 hour get home drive, 1083 miles. On the way north we usually end up in north carolina for the night. We watch the weather very close when it gets closer to heading home. We did have to make a drive once during snows, parent emergency, it was miserable. Crazy drivers don't know how to be careful and slow down. We also watch for bad rains, have hit a few rain outs, could not even see the road.

Going outside to check the greenhouse and pond, hard to sleep when so many things could go wrong on a cold night like tonight. Going to add warm water to bottom pond with hose from out the bathroom window, just to make sure bottom pond is top up good in case of anything,,.,

You're right, Colleen. I'm having to get up every 4 hours to feed the fireplace.:yuck:

My weather station says we hit a windchill of -40.2C at 3:10 this morning....:hungover:

This national forecast for the low temp is worse than my last one and it is supposed to get even colder through Sunday night! It is so cold (HOW COLD IS IT?) that they don't even show the temperature for the scale color for many of the northern states!

Don't go home Addy! There is a glacier forming in your back yard! Stay where it is warm.

Global WARMING in action folks!

Thought this stuff was over for the year!.png

Crank up the AC Addy! It's cold here. The ice storm for us has been cancelled.Yah!! Now calling for 4-6" of snow- Boo! Got the electric bill yesterday. With all the super cold weather and 2 1500w, 800w and 2 100 watt heaters running, the bill went down! Love the new windows and doors as they are so well insulated. New front door and storm door coming as soon as I finish the tile floor.

Gordy

Wish we could stay, but have doc appts, could be changed, taxes, could have neighbor send down all our mail for me to work on them, but the stopper is our bee class. Two days the 15th and the 22nd of march. If I am going to start raising bee's the class is important to learn what to do. That is the show stopper, we need to head home for it.
Our bees arrive mid May, this class is a six week course put into two days.

Been tempted to cancel and stay, but I feel the need for more info then all the reading I have done to do the bees justice.

We have a cold spell here, 55 this am, heading to cold 78
a warm 12 at home

Addy,

Yeah, I know the reasons to go home. But you of course know I am just being silly with the comment there. We gotta do what we gotta do!

If you are going to a BEE class, be sure to bring up the subject of the "Beetle Barrier". I just read about this in a news snipit. There is a beetle that can invade a hive and descimate it, but some beekeeper developed some aluminum platform to place inside the hive that deters or prevents the beetles from getting into the offspring and eating them up. It is somewhat new, but you should be sure to research this. I couldn't discover a whole lot of details on the design, but it is worth looking into with all the trouble bee populations have been experiencing over the past years.

Thanks Gordy, I will check into that and ask at the meeting. The guy holding the class has been raising bees in maryland for many many years. A lot of experience. I know there is a hive beetle, mites, noseeem, a lot to know

Yeah we do Gordy gotta do what we gotta do. Our taxes take me about two weeks to get them ready for our cpa to do the book........I ship the info to arizona, kept my cpa in az since they do a good job and have years of records.
