47 out but got more done by the pond and found another chewed spot on the liner .Also bottom of liner leaking more .So tomorrow starts the move of aggie and bert ,I hope .I then will try cutting out the old liner in big pieces .Maybe salvage some of it .Then start digging pond longer .Fingers feel like I sanded them with sand paper from moving all the retaining wall block

The dragon flies eat the baby fish??? Yikes! I didn't know that. I have my floating plants netted, because the fish were eating the roots, but I have some other areas that maybe okay to lay eggs. I have had one set of baby fish, but they were guppies (or something like small like that). I would love to get some 'pond mutts', as Addy calls them.

How big do the goldfish need to be to spawn? My koi are still very small, the largest being about 6/7 inches. The goldfish are about 3 inches.

Mine spawned the second summer they were in the pond, around 4-5 inches, (goldfish) Once they start they will not stop.............I went from 4 fish with around 20 added to over 200 fish in two summers. I feed them very lightly so they will eat the eggs to keep the population down. They love to drop eggs n the plant roots.

Darn cold at home..............nice here. Almost want to skip our bee class and stay for a while longer.
More snow, sleet, rain coming and COLD!

Vegan Sister liked my Maple Butter Popcorn, and I told her it had butter, I think she is falling off her "Vegan wagon"! Everybody loved my Maple Butter Popcorn! Even my Vegan niece loved it too, they are all falling off the "vegan" wagon I think... The extra cold winter must have weakened them and made them hungry!
Going down to minus 30 Celsius (minus 23 Fahrenheit) but with the wind chill it is going to be minus 40! I can always tell how cold it is by just looking at the back screen door, when it gets really cold the back screen door that has a glass too, gets all frozen till you cannot see thew it anymore.

Colleen some of your cold Canadian air is sneaking down our way tonight. Just when I was enjoying the warmer temps you flung it down south. Now if you're gonna do that then throw some snow in w/ it cuz the ice part is just boring but the snow gives me a nice rush or better yet fling some of that delicious sounding maple popcorn concoction up in the wind our way

So, Colleen, is your 50 year old sister REALLY pregnant? I was wondering if that was real, or if she just believed she was pregnant.
Sissy, I suspect you don't wear gloves? I have to work in the ground or especially with any type of rocks without leather gloves on. I am a wimp, I admit it! I don't even care much about my nails, just don't like hands to get all rough and chapped. LOL
JW, forgot to comment on your beautiful flowers! I had to look at them again this evening, they are all soooooo pretty! I'm so jealous! I planted crocuses last fall for the first time in many years. Hoping I get a little of what you posted, even just a few flowers will thrill me.
Goldfish pond almost totally ice free, got the air bubbler going on koi pond tonight, with 40's for high this afternoon, the air line thawed out I guess. It's opening up the koi pond really fast. Getting ice tomorrow night all night long it looks like, if the weather channel knows what it's talking about. This time I hope they are wrong! I'll take 6" of snow anytime over 1/4" of ice. I'm on the edge of the snow vs. sleet/freezing rain. Hoping that line moves south, and the snow comes south with it! My brother 80 miles north of me is in the 8-10" of snow band. Hello winter, sorry you did not leave us yet! Soon ... soon you will need to leave us for at least 9 months ... VERY soon I hope!

Haha, didn't think of that scenario, JW! I sure hope no big fat winter baby next year. I think we got it this year!
Sissy, I keep thinking I wish soooo bad we lived closer to each other. I sure need some digging in the ground time, and your project would be right up my alley to come and help out. I keep thinking I'm going to watch flights, and just surprise you one of these weekends if I find a steal! But, then I would need to know where you live, so I guess the cat would be out of the bag!
JW, I'm coming to Seattle for my niece's wedding in August, so I'm planning to look you up then! Just thought I'd toss that out there at ya.

At first I was thinking that maybe she just "thought" she was pregnant and really going thew menopause, but it is starting to look like she really is pregnant now and belly is showing. Her older two grown girls think she is crazy to have gotten herself pregnant with a man who has no money and wants to run from her.... Then she thinks she does not need to see a doctor, she always was like that, never saw a doctor since she last gave birth like 18 years ago!!! I told her it was risky having a baby at her age but she says she is not sick and going to have the baby at home!! I cannot talk any sense into her since she turned into a Vegetable!! :jawdrop: Ops I mean a Vegan!!!

hunkering down soon cause it is getting really cold now, minus 9 Fahrenheit, or minus 23 Celsius, going to be really cold tonight with a severe wind chill down to minus 40 later. I have to run and get gas and a couple things at the store and then back to hunkering down with the puppies and staying warm!

Sissy what do you think was chewing on the liner? If it was a rodent then you can get this thing that plugs in and it makes noise that only they can hear and they run away. I got some at the hardware store in the "get the mice section".....

Gee Sissy, I remember too well how hands and fingers feel from moving rocks all last summer while working on my pond. I'm not much of a glove wearer myself. Always scrubbing my hands to death to get out the ground in dirt from gardening and stuff. :)

CE my electric bill has definitely been higher. Approx $80 a month. But we also have had such cold weather that the furnace is working harder. (LP gas) But I am on a program with electric co that averages out your estimated usage for the year based on prior year and divides that for the 12 months. So I pay the same amount every month. I prefer it that way. I know what my bill will be every month. No surprises. No break in the spring and fall when heat or air isn't running but no huge bills in the heat of summer or coldest months of winter. They will refigure my monthly payment, probably later in the spring and will probably bump up my monthly payment based on the increased usage this winter. What I need to do like Colleen is get a smaller wattage heater to use when temps are not so ridiculously cold and just plug in the 1500 watt heater when I have to. Maybe switch back and forth as needed. Not sure. Might try to come up with a better plan for next year. Since this was the first winter with the pond, I am learning as I go. I don't like the idea of leaving it plugged in all the time but not sure what els to do. For a bubbler I am just using an aquarium air pump with the biggest air stones I could find. Keeping that in a bucket with a bigger bucket over the top. Not quite enough oomph to keep a hole open by itself when it gets super cold.

Colleen that is some cold weather. Yuk
We are expected to get 4 to 6 inches of snow this weekend and back down to single digit temps for highs.
By the end of next week we should be getting back above freezing temps. Sure hoping this is the last really cold blast and spring will be showing its face around here very very soon! This winter is wearing me down!

CE hope you do not end up with all the ice! I agree, better to have snow.
